I was curious ... If I do purchase a Qosmio from Toshiba, what am I going to see as far as bloatware on this system? Does anyone have a step-by-step on what to uninstall? Would it be better to do a clean install of just the OS system or is the bloatware not that bad with Toshibas?

    Thanks for any input

Here's a list of Software that comes installed: both Toshiba and 3rd Party. I got it from the q8102 spec sheet.

Toshiba: I would keep these programs. As are quite useful (HDD protector)

    3rd Party Software:

Well, it doesn't look too bad. I could definitely do without all that trial-ware. I never was a fan of that Wild Tangent crap either .... Everything else seems tolerable and may come in handy at some point.

Too bad they don't supply recovery discs with most computers any more. I may require a little advice when I finally get my computer on how to exactly go about creating one for myself if there's no instructions on how to.

Make sure you make recovery DVDs as soon as you get it (in fact it should be the first thing you do).

Takes about 1.5 hours and is pretty easy. Soon as I turned on my Qosmio for the first time, and it loaded into Windows, I had a window pop up that helped me create them (hopefully it pops up for you). If not, you can access the program from the Start Menu, or Toshiba's Bulletin program (looks like a red thumb tack form the windows side bar). [program called " TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator"]

I highly recommend making the DVDs, as if something goes wrong and you don't have them, Toshiba will charge you $30 to send them out to you.

    Good luck

Why not do a clean install?

How many DVDs does it take to make a recovery disc(s)?

Would you be able to utilize a flash drive in place of discs?

Also, why wouldn't a clean install be appropriate .... are the Toshiba programs important for certain functions?

    Just curious.

It took me 4 DVDs to make the Recovery Discs (about an hour).

I have no idea if you can use a flash drive, but I can say this: I tried doing a system recovery on an Acer Aspire One with a USB drive, didn't work. Needed DVD drive.

I personally don't know how to do a "Clean Install". A benefit I see from keeping the Toshiba installation of Windows is that it comes with "Microsoft Office Starter 2010". It's basically a stripped down version of word and excel (works perfectly for my needs), and its FREE!!! No trial!! But only comes on OEM installs of Windows. A clean install would not have it. Also, I think teh Toshiba HDD protector is good (though put it on Normal setting) and the "Recovery Disc Creator" is a must :)

That's just me though. Good luck
