I have a Dell, but I wouldn't run your computer without virus protection - the trial version is better than nothing and is certainly better than what Windows has to offer. As far as unloading the software, a simple removal through Add/Remove Software should do it.

well, its not that i don't wanna install virus protection; its just that; i want to install zonealram one and my desktop computer is a dell; and uninstalling it would say that
    "Antivirus Software is turned off"
and when i install a new av virus it still telling me that my "McAfee is turned off" even though my zonealaram security suite is running. i think i already post this couple of weeks ago

what i wan't to know this time around is that do all of them got this kind of problem; or is it just my computer; or just DELL thing...

Did you go into Add/Remove Programs and remove all of the McAfee's remnants? If not, then you're going to have little bits and pieces of the original AV still running in the background. As far as how often this happens, all people with pre-loaded software get this problem, unless you do a total reinstall (which is what most people here at NBR.com do) or maunally remove it through Add/Remove Programs and through the registry.

I would just shut off the alerts that the Security Center gives out. Control Panel -> Security Center and then click on "change the way Security Center alerts me" and uncheck the boxes.

McAfee is kind of a pain in the butt to get rid of but I did it and put AVG on it. I also use zone alarm. I just shut off the alerts because the annoy me.

yeah i did that, but there is mcafee bits and pieces that really annoys me, and by turning off the warning doesn't make the problem go away; sort of like taking painkiller i suppose ;P. yeah, and i want my computer running optimally.

hmmm, hey, what happened if we uninstall the AV software and then use the QUICK RESTORE CD; would the AV soft be installed again?

I don't know if that would work - I would go and do a full restore of the system and wipe the whole HD blank with a fresh install. That would ensure no remnants are left of McAfee. In addition, what notebook are you working with?

I took of the McAfee Anti Virus after a year on my desktop and when I installed AVG Free, the security center immedieately updated itself and worked flawless. Most likely just as some other posters have said try looking for the McAffee AV files and delete them and reboot the computer so it will update.
