Just going by looks, they seem the same to me... I haven't seen a Tecra in person lately but the Satellite and Satellite Pro are almost identical. What are the differences/advantages of the Pro and Tecra vs the basic Satellite?
-
The Tecra line is aimed at corporate and small business customers (a more thorough description is available at http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cfam.to?coid=-26374).
The Satellite branding has been around for a while, and although I think Toshiba used to use it primarily for their consumer and budget laptops, they do seem to have branched it out with the "Satellite Pro" branding, and so you also have some high-end Satellite systems designed for higher-end markets like gaming laptops, etc. The main differences in the Satellite line mainly come down to specs. -
Tecras also have better build quality than Satellites do, as they're built for the business user.

satellite and satellite pro are the same EXCEPT, the pro series run on xp pro as opposed to home.
the tecra series are basically the business class version of the satellite.
better build, better warranty (3yr, usually), xp pro, and usually solid black.
think of it like lexus and toyota. -
Are you sure the Tecras are better built ?
Some models looks exactly the same , except for some minor changes like TPM and better warranty , I think it used to be so in the past but now as they converge the same design with different specs and slap it another name / model number I'm not so sure about it . -
well the frame is the same, so the outer appearance are quite similar, but the materials used are different. hence the weight difference between an equivalent tecra and satellite.

lol, never mind, i just checked out the newer toshibas, and they look identical, as well as weigh the same.
this really makes me curious.. -
Agreed leof , that is just what I was going to write .
Whats the diff between a Satellite, Satellite Pro, and Tecra?
