Does anyone know if Toshiba sells GPUs or even CPUs? I looked on their website and it is just the general stuff; RAM, HD.

If not, do you know of a good place to purchase these components?

You can find CPUs on Newegg. Most GPUs are soldered onto the mobo and can't be bought separately. You can find MXM GPUs on eBay.

Look on eBay for Toshiba X205 or X305 laptop GPUs. There might be some.

Tough luck. It is awesome to hear that the x305 has the ability to upgrade the gpu, but I guess no one read the fine print about the upgrade. First the slot is not a standard MXM slot, its some prioritary slot, which is different from other Toshiba models. So in other words, you can buy it only from Toshiba and they don't sell it to the public. Second thing it will not be cheap. HECK, standard MXM 8600m GT cost $200!!!

Even with MXM its hardly worth it, easier to buy a new notebook.
Instead of, say, screens, market for laptop GPU boards is hardly existing.

well in a few years, itll be cheaper and thatll be when we need it.

i think upgrading the cpu would be the best bet now, so does anyone know if the cpu can be upgraded without buying from toshiba?

I said even MXM, problem that is Toshiba GPU boards are not MXM. Its totally impossible to get hold on them.

Yep, replacing CPU is very viable upgrade and its not that hard to buy compatible CPUs.
For X200 you can put in any PM965-compatible CPU in it. Merom is previous generation, Penryn is newest. Both will work just fine.

For X300 you will have to use PM45-compatible CPUs.

so theres no way that we would ever be able to get an upgraded gpu? so if we say send it in to them, they wouldnt upgrade it?

and on the cpu side note, where could i get a cheap 2.53 ghz cpu for this thing? (x300) from canada

Well, since there is no official upgrade service, I bet they wouldn't. Not because they can not (they can in fact), but just because there are no such service on their list of services, so for instance they wouldn't know how much to charge for it :)
Maybe if you have a good friend in Toshiba service center, he can order a needed part for you ;)

I partially retract my previous statement about impossibility to find one.

    http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,X205,Laptop,Parts.aspx

    K000052120 - 8700 GT 256 Mb board
    K000052130 - 8700 GT 512 Mb board

    K000056560 + K000056570 - 8600 SLI with Hynix memory
    K000056580 + K000056550 - 8600 SLI with Samsung memory

But, they still cost absolutely nuts. And I wonder if you can actually buy them without receiving "sorry, they out of stock".

well i searched for the qosmio x305 and found the cpu for 428$

    i didnt see any gpu's

i have the x300, which is like the x305. id like a cpu upgrade but if its that much for a 2.0, than its gotta be alot for a 2.5.

the gpu is ok, but a 9800M GTX in a year will probably be alot still

The 701 will not have the ability to run SLI, it has a different chipset and smaller power supply (I could be wrong)

    701/705 - Intel PM 45 PS - 180w
    706/708 - Geforce 9400M PS - 230W

Has anyone upgraded there CPU yet? I was thinking P8600

The 9400M IGP was recently incorporated. SLI tech in the Qosmio x305 was already there before this.
