OK, I'm maxed out on primary partitions (4) I need to delete one so that I can install XP on my laptop. I noticed that there are 2 Toshiba partitions: Toshiba System Volume and HDDRecovery is it safe to erase one of these? I have created recovery CD's if that makes a difference.

If you have the recovery discs then it is safe to delete the HDD Recovery partition. Read around about the Toshiba System volume so that you know whether you can safely delete it or not.
