Why is the clock messed up on my U200?

I'm not getting any error messages but the clock in my laptop doesn't keep time when it's off. So when I turn it on it reads the last time that it was used, not the current date/time. I'm assuming it's the CMOS (RTC) battery. I did a fresh install of Windows and the problem still exists.

My question is, if it is the CMOS/RTC battery is it easy to replace? I looked around for some service manuals but couldn't find any for the U200/U205. If it isn't the battery what could it be?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the only thing that could be would be the battery that keeps time (looks like a watch battery) in your laptop is dead like you're thinking...

It shouldn't be hard to replace. It just sticks in the slot and is easy to replace on your own. :) As for buying a new one, just check out Batteries Plus or somewhere like that after you take out your dead one and you should be good to go! :D

    Hope this helps!

Yeah, that's what I'm figuring. I just want to know how hard it is to replace. I've seen some laptops where the battery is easy to get at and others where you need to tear the whole thing apart.

Hm... I'm not real familiar with the U200, but I do know that it is pretty common for laptops that if you can find the battery (which I'm sure you can) it isn't hard to work with to replace. :)

    Good luck on everything!

OK, I just took our every screw I could find (including all of the ones under the keyboard) and I still cannot get this thing apart.

 You should only have to take out the screws on the underside of the notebook. XD lol

I taken out everything I could find and also removed all the panels on the bottom looking for screws under them; no luck. The bottom is a little looser but it's obvious that it's still being held in place by some screws or something.

    hi John

Were you able to replace the RTC battery on your U200?

I have the same problem on my U205. My clock is also not showing the correct time. Moving very very slow. Yes, the manual does not contain any instructions on how to replace RTC battery. It just says charge the laptop for 24 hours with the laptop turned on -- I did this but it didn't fix the clock problem.

I always buy Toshiba laptops because they seem very sturdy. But now I am having second thoughts getting Toshiba in the future. Replacing RTC battery should be something very easy.

    Thank you.
