Hi all, I'm new to here.

Recently I purchased this Toshiba M30 YSJ unit. I'm happy with all of its functions except that when my WiFi unit is turned on, it becomes so hot very quickly and it also heats up the area where my left wrist sits when I'm typing.

Am I the only person having this problem? Or it's a typical issue?

Will it heat up to the point that the computer would stop functioning?

Please let me know. Thank you very much.

This is a similar problem may M30 owners are experiencing. No one seemed to mention specifically that it happened only after wireless turned on, but most people just says it gets hot in that exact spot. It might be a cooling issue of the unit. You may want to try propping up the back end of the notebook approx .5"-1" and see if that helps. You may want to try contacting Toshiba and starting a report about this issue. If enough people complain about it, maybe they'll actually do something to fix this issue.

Anything that is too hot will have damage. It may not be evident now, but in the long term it'll add up.

    Wordstress,
Glad to see the cooler worked out for you.

    Tnl,
Yes, Antec and a bunch of other companies have come out with cooling systems for notebooks. It's pretty much a small stand that has fans blowing cool air onto the underside of your notebook, therefore keeping it cool.

    Here's a link to Antec's Notebook Coolers.

From the looks of things, this may be a required item when purchasing the M30-YSJ models.

Thank you very much for the info on the notebook cooler. Approximately how think is it? And does it make a lot of noise at all?

According to the Antec site, the cooler operates at 25.9db. In a related link on their site, it indicates that a quiet whisper 3ft
    away is 30db.

    The units has the following dimensions: 13" x 11.2" x 0.85" (WxDxH).

Many times the item generating the heat is your harddrive. Some of the drives have friction problems in the bearings and generate immense amounts of heat. So much they nearly burn you hand to the touch. There is no heat dissiption incorporated into the laptop for the harddrive. The M30 hd I believe is in the front center of the machine (under the trackpoint). This is often the source of premature hard drive failures in laptops as well.
