Hello,
can someone please help me find a way to install XP on toshiba u305-s5127?
I tried and it gave me the error for no SATA driver.
Thanks
-
You can find all Xp drivers in the following link:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modItemList.jsp?ModelDLOS=null&ModelDLCat=null&BV_SessionID=@@@@0816861737.1193601541@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccciaddmghjgjdlcgfkceghdgngdgmm.0&ListType=Model&ct=DL&moid=1800275&rpn=PTM80U&OrderBy=D&PublicStartIndex=25&PrivateStartIndex=0&PublicCutOff=&PrivateCutOff=&AddOldPublicItems=false&AddOldPrivateItems=undefined&all_docs=false
the drivers are for "Tecra M8-ST3094" that is same copy of U305.
-
Do you put this driver in when you install XP?
But how does it read it during the install process of XP? -
-
you can download the F6 floppy driver from intel's website http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2529&DwnldID=13323&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng
you need to have a floppy drive to extract this file. it will automatically creates a driver diskette for xp. During the installation, you must press F6 button, and specify the driver location (that is a: by default).
I installed the XP Pro with SP2 with this floppy, then installed other drivers from Tecra M8-ST3094's driver page. -
USB floppy drive? Why not a USB drive?
I think Slipsteam is better with a CD.
This is really going backwards. -
you need a floppy drive (USB), because during windows XP installation, when you are pressing F6, only valid drive is a floppy drive, and it can not detect any usb drive.
-
Oh man. This is difficult.
I would rather do slipstream. There are sites that can show you how to do it.
I dont have a U305 yet. I still cant decide between this or the D430. -
nLite-1.4.rc2.installer
google this product, and it will slipstream your XP disc and the floppy drivers into a new disc. I also streamlined the network card drivers, the chipset drivers, and the KB888111 fix into mine. The BKB888111 from microsoft must be done on the X205-Sli3, or the audio and modem won't show up on the HD Audio Bus. -
Hello - first post - just got the u305 and am trying desperately to put XP pro on it. I don't have a usb floppy and I've tried the slipstream to get the SATA driver installed to no avail. I downloaded the driver from the intel website as well as from the Toshiba website and tried it with both. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Edit - ps - I'm not even sure I'm pulling in the right driver. -
Are you install fresh?
You need to slipstream it. Bascially a hack version of the OS with the drivers you need to get installed. Read a few posts up. -
He said he already tried that.
-
Sorry guys, i guess i should have posted update,
i did the slipstream way, i integrated ALL the drivers that existed on the intel matrix thing. everything works fine except HDD protector, which wont install "your system is not supported" -
Hello - I found a usb floppy drive at a second-hand store this afternoon and loaded the sata drivers that way. Tried to slipstream it about 4 more times and just got more and more frustrated.
I have the U305-S7467 and it was brutally sluggish with the factory install of V#s*a - screams with XP Pro - love it. Thanks for the suggestions. -
It is really this bad huh? I dont get the U305. Instead my refurbished D430 came last night and I like it so far.
For those that need USB floppy drive, go to ebay. I see a few for $10-$15 shipped. -
I have the same problem with same PC. Where did you find the SATA driver? Could you please post the link or email me the link?
Thanks a lot. -
Hi, I just got in my brand new x205-sli3. Currently the score is laptop: 15, me: 0....... The default installation of Vista on the laptop just totally sucks. I was able to get linux up and running just fine (no wireless...), but Windows XP won't install. I do not have access to a usb floppy drive, and I cannot get one so that option is 100% out for me. I have tried slipstreaming different sata drivers about 5 different times - all to no avail.
There is no option in my bios to enable ide support. If anyone knows of a different/better bios for this laptop, I have no problem flashing it...
I refuse to believe I spent $2500 on a piece of trash that is doomed to be slower than my wife's 8 year old computer.
I need some detailed help - Which exact driver do i need to slipstream, what is the URL to download it, exactly what do I do in nLite to make sure the driver will be available to detect the drive during installation...
Please help me, I've been working on this for 3 days now, and I'm getting desperate... I've searched everywhere online, and tried all the solutions I possibly can. You guys are my last hope! -
http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaS...iceId=&dialogID=21790061&stateId=1 0 21786773
I successfully slip streamed it into my xp sp2 disk with nlite. just click the add drivers button, and select all of the 'mobile' lines. do NOT do the PNP option.
Now... I'm working on my aunt's u305-s7446 and I'll be damned if I can't get the audio working on it. I've downloaded all the realtek stuff but it's a no go. anyone have a similar problem? -
hello all.
first of all, i got my u305 s7467 to function on XP without a real problem. even audio is good (skip down for that).
I have to say many thanks to Everyone here and in other places on the net...
took me two nights and 1 day, but i am working with a fully functional XP on the u305. i even called toshiba a couple of times (they tried to help, but not really knowledgeable). the function dropdown candy isn't working. i dont really need that, do i?
i'll summarize the steps to help people move along.
1. slipstream the SATA drive with XP using nlite (been covered already)
2. but after install, will notice tons of errors without correct drivers.
3. go to toshiba website. look for your model laptop in download section. use "Refine by [OS]" [Windows XP]
4. install all except maybe disc creator... i didn't see a need. (i might be assuming too much that all u305 laptops use similar drivers and utilities...)
* at this point some things like your LAN, Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, and fingerprint thing should be operating. at least now you can download the other files directly instead of using a second computer
* and your screen should be the ugly still...
5. go to the intel website and look for the mobile 965 express chipset and download the "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP" to fix that. This will give you the video drivers.
6. insert the Toshiba recovery disc 1 for some drivers we can use on the XP.
7. you can either explore the DVD to the COMPS1 folder or use the "install applications and drivers" option. and install:
Camera Utility, for the camera assistant. (the camera works without the assistant because its a USB plug and play-i hope)
Ricoh Card Reader Controller, to read other flash memory other than SD
Toshiba Software Modem, to enable the RJ11 jack (the phone line...)
*i believe thats almost it. By now, everything should be as it is.. expect the sound isn't working. yes, I looked everywhere for something to make it work. I noticed at this point i had one "PCI-Device" under "system devices" in "Device Manager" acting up with a driver-not-installed kind of error. i assumed this was the problem, only thing that was holding me back.
You have to manually pick the driver to make it work. I think it was suppose to pick up an Intel HD Audio Driver but it wasn't, so...
update driver > yes, this time only > install from a list or specific location > don't search. i will choose the driver to install > sound, video and game controllers > MS UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio
that should cover your sound issues (and maybe even modem).
if it didn't work.. then update your windows XP. there's a hotfix that addresses the HD issue. i think its called KB888111.
good luck all!
downgrading fun! -
*forgot to mention about the Realtek Audio Drivers. i used R1.67. do a search on "Sound Driver Realtek 5.10.0.5413" on google. i can't remember why i didn't use the latest one R1.8. maybe it didnt work*
-
This driver folder is already queued for integration. no need to select more than one INF file from the same folder.
Pardon me if this is a dumb question but what is puzzling me is, does this mean that:
a) both the *.inf files contain the same drivers or
b) once a *inf is selected nlite displays the contents of all the *.infs in the same folder.
It would be great if someone could clarify this. Thanks. -
I have the Toshiba U305 S7446 and did find all the drivers needed to switch from vista to XP Pro. Go here:
http://209.167.114.38/support/download/ln_byModel.asp <<Go here
Use the PSU30C-NS608C version
It seems that these tools are the generic version with all Toshiba machines but I was looking for the camera driver. It worked along with other drivers that seemed more like toys than anything else.
This link was actually found through a search for a Toshiba U305 but another model. So far, everything works.
How I did it:
Go to the above marked site and download all the XP drivers, open and burn them onto a CD within their respected directories.
Trash vista and install a clean version of XP Pro adding the SATA drivers
Update to SP2
Install all the drivers to fit the Toshiba U305
Update XP Pro via microsoft
Read tinypliny's post below and follow them. They're perfect! -
BTW, I found the answer to my question above in this thread:
http://www.msfn.org/board/Multiple-inf-files-Driver-Folder-Drive-integration-t65034.html
Apparently, clicking and selecting the contents of one *.inf file is enough because nlite then includes and installs the contents of the other .inf files in the folder as well.
http://209.167.114.38/support/downl...ok&model=Satellite U305&partnum=PSU30C-NS608C
However, now I have another question. The SATA drivers linked on the page you linked (and I linked above) is nearly 20 MB whereas the SATA drivers linked before are just around 182 KB. Apparently, they work too. What then is causing this huge increase in size of the SATA drivers. Here's how they are displayed in the descriptions:
SATA Driver linked earlier:
Intel Matrix Storage Manager for Windows Vista/XP Version: 7.0.0.1020
Size: 185,375 bytes (182 KB) Released Date: 09/17/07 Applicable Categories: Driver, Special Operating System: Windows XP, Windows XP SP2
File: driver_intel_sata_boot.zip
SATA driver linked later:
8/23/2007 Intel Matrix Storage Manager (SATA) Intel Windows XP 7.6.0.1011 Size: 20.1 MB
Any responses to the SATA puzzle would be very much appreciated. -
Decided to go with the SATA drivers from the Toshiba US website. Did you guys come across a Toshiba SYS partition when you were doing a clean install of Win XP on the U305? What is this Toshiba SYS partition and is it safe to delete this partition?
-
Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread. I completed the complete switch to Windows XP in my Toshiba U305 - S7467 today. Since I was switching to non-toshiba advised stuff, I went the whole nine yards and installed the latest drivers wherever available instead of the Toshiba outdated unsupported crap on their page. To reaffirm and add to the posts in this thread, here are the steps:
1. Download SATA driver from here: http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaS...iceId=&dialogID=21790061&stateId=1 0 21786773
2. Download Win XP Optimization for Dual Core Processors: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...48-8240-4934-BBD8-34FB8A0FCE3B&displaylang=en and the audio hotfix from here: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=47079
3. Create Slipstreamed optimized Win XP SP 2 with all hotfixes CD with Nlite: http://www.nliteos.com/ and Windows Update Downloader: http://wud.jcarle.com/
4. Change Boot routine of U305 - so it boots via the CD/DVD drive.
5. Ignore the TOSHIBA SYS partition - I have no idea what this is - if someone can answer this, it would be great. NTFS Format the other partition (189281 MB) and install the modified SlipStreamed Win XP on it.
6. Install Sequence should follow this guideline:
http://support.toshiba.ca/support/Download/files_downloads/psu30c/xp/installation.txt
(Information for the next few steps: The chipset in the U305-S7467 is the Intel 965 Express chipset with the integrated GM965 graphics chip)
7. Install Intel Matrix Storage Manager from here: http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-025753.htm
8. Install .NET framework from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5
9. Install Java 2 Runtime Environment from here: http://support.toshiba.ca/support/d...ok&model=Satellite U300&partnum=PSU30C-NS608C
10. Install the Intel chipset driver installation utility followed by the display driver from here: http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-025753.htm
11. Install the latest sound drivers (WHICH WORK!!) from here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
12. Install the wireless driver from Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!
NO NEED FOR the wireless software client. Win XP handles the wireless configs pretty well without need for extra junk.
13. To reduce monitor brightness, adjust other power consumption settings and increase battery life (which stands at an awesome 5.5 hours now!) Install Powerstrip from here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=169
14. You should have an inbuilt USB camera support from Win XP - so I don't think the Chicony thing is needed. However, if you really want it you could download it from here: http://support.toshiba.ca/support/d...ok&model=Satellite U300&partnum=PSU30C-NS608C
I didn't install it. My videocam needs are met by Win XP.
15. Take out all useless stuff - those mediocre "games" that came with XP, unecessary bloat eg. support for a bazillion languages.. yeah right, like you are ever going to speak in Armenian (pardon me, my Armenian friends, you could substitute this with English) If you are an efficient computer user, you don't need those "media keys" or the rather redundant function key stuff. Use the volume control dial on the left of the laptop and use powerstrip for the rest
Boot time is again an awesome 14 seconds. This system totally rocks!
Let me know if I missed something.
Cheers! -
I tryed last year with the 945GB on Intel ICH7 and I had no luck with getting XP x64 to direct to an external USB floppy. I understood this was just the way it was desighned.
Can somebody confirm that "YES" they got XP (any family) to detect and be directed to USB floppy? What about the older optional exteranl floppy that connected to docking port or DVD port. i still have mine form my older Toshiba.
If I must use the elite, is it 64 bit compatable, or will I need to creat in 32bit and burn to disc? Where at and how do I add the hotfixes I know I will always use? Is there a list of the standalone hotfixes that are not in current SP2 such as the no video on resume from S3 or HD audio patcher for XP x64 on Intel HD, or the faile to resume from S4 (XP 32bit) with more then 2GB RAM? Can the Toshiba drivers for function keys, LAN and, other Toshiba features be added as well? How do I get it to use IE7 instead of IE6 or Mdia player 11 insted of 10? Or atleast not install them so I can add myself? I want a compact install so I can use more space for high end media apps like Adobe Premiere Pro and rest of the Creative CS3 suite. -
These are the 64 bit addons: http://www.nliteos.com/addons/index64.html
The simple and complete guide is here:
1. http://www.nliteos.com/guide/
2. http://www.nliteos.com/guide/before.html
3. http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part1.html
4. http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part2.html
5. http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part3.html
Gives you an option of NOT installing Media Player 11 etc. If you use an older version of WinXP installation for the nlite slipstreaming process, don't include the IE-7 hotfix/upgrade under nlite integration. -
This is how my lightening fast U305 looks like now. Couldn't be happier.

I specifically registered for this forum to thank you for your amazing post. My niece got a Satellite U305-S7467 and it was really painful with Vista on it. I followed your directions to the dot and now it's running like a totally different machine. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!!! -
When I bought this computer I was leary of Vista and after 4 months of dealing with the annoyances of Vista I am very, very happy to have XP running on my computer.

haha, tinypliny i am Armenian
but i completely agree with you about removing languages

So I have been trying to slipstream a disk to get it to work with my u305-2812..
The only thing i am trying to change in nlite is the drivers for sata...
I selected all of the mobile lines in the driver integration box, and then made my .iso and bruned it to a disk, but i still get this error...
"The device associated with following device driver will not work corrctly on this computer: iaStor.sys
The device driver is not compatible with the x64based version of windows your computer is running.
bla bla bla..."
Any suggestions?

Just as an Update, I got my u305-2812 running xp pro x64 last week friday. The only difference for mine, is I took the sata drivers straight from my models driver page, even though they were listed for vista. I then used winRAR to find and extract the drivers from the .exe file and slipstreamed them to my XP Pro disk.
Hope that can help someone.... -
I have an U305-S7448,
I could make everything XP works including the sound. Thank you very much, [zok27], you are the man! I download this driver instead : MS UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio. It works for S7448. The rest of them I used drivers for Tecra M8 .. 94.
Now I can use XP instead of the slow and memory wasting Vista Ho Chi Minh b*tch. (I live outside of Vietnam now so I can say whatever I feel!!)
Thanks to everyone in this forum!
God and Buddha bless you all.
Freedom for Vietnam and downgrading's fun! -
Tried everything in this topic, but this is not working
Any ideas why?
I have U305-S7448.
I'm extremelly tired to even type the problems by it, simply not working -
PM me your email, i will send you the drivers for U305 7448 I had downloaded. Trust me, I have the same laptop and I could install XP.
Dont reply, PM me. Unless you want people bomb-mail you like we bomb Iraq -
I can't use PM's
The WIN is online now, but audio not working, your is ok? which drivers have you used?
Thx -
OK, FiNE!
You just don't trust the good man.
I'm uploading them to rapidshare for you.because I KNOW how DEPRESSED I was when I looked for those drivers for days!!!!!! Now i'm trying to help.
For Audio, to be honest with you, I don't remember which one that I used since I found 2 audio zip files in my U305 driver folder. the audio realtek 26359b one (hmm I don't think this works) and "realtek_high_definition_audio_261" (I'm pretty sure this will do). But I am uploading both 2 files anyway just in case.
http://rapidshare.com/files/121981741/driver_audio_realtek_26359B.exe.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/121981304/realtek_high_definition_audio_261.zip.html
Tell me if you need more drivers for this u 305 widowmakers -
Going to try
Thaaaaaaanks you very much
EDIT: unfortunatelly, none of them working
I guess my hardware is dead, what else it could be, otherwise it is cursed.
dvd-rom was dead last month....
and im not using it very often, like once per week
How could I find if it is really a hardware error? eg if I install that original Vista which came with laptop, would that help?
deaf-mute laptop is a bit handicaped -
usernamedont, try this one:
update driver > yes, this time only > install from a list or specific location > don't search. i will choose the driver to install > sound, video and game controllers > MS UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio
If you don't see it, I think you should google "MS UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio" and download it.
I remember I did something with this "MS UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio", either downloaded it or found it in the winXP setup CD and installed it.
about your DVD, I am not sure how to detect whether it's a hardware error.
yes, i agree, deaf-mute laptop is not fun. -
MS UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio, is that one which is going like dial up 6KB/s?
I tried that one too, but nothing
EDIT:
By the way, when I turn off or reset the laptop, it freezes the screen: "Windows is shutting down..." and need to be killed by power off button.... is that normal ?? -
Going back to the original problem; XP doesn't install on first generation SATA motherboards because it's basically a bodge.
What you need to do is find the generic XP sata drivers (which I have kindly attached), then use nLite (Google it) to create an XP Installation Disc, making sure you specify the drivers I have attached.
Then taa-daa, you have a bootable XP Installation Disc which works with every SATA motherboard & drive I have tried it with. Beautiful.
Any questions? PM me. I might write a tutorial for it if there's any interest.

Thanks for help with the XP
Unfortunatelly, now facing worse problem, sound not working
In " Dead Sound" thread is more info -
Hi there,
Any chance you can help a girl out by sending me a list of the drivers you used for the U305-S7448? How long did it take you to get all of the drivers and change from Vista to XP? (I'm trying to figure out how many more hours of my life I have to invest before I get a laptop that won't give me the Vista Blue Screen of Death). I received this laptop as an early Christmas present back in October 2007, wasted 3 days of my life with all of the system crashes every minute, and gave up and put it away for a few months.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
My email is [email protected]. -
For anyone looking to get Windows XP working on a Toshiba U405, the info here works well. Thanks to this thread I got everything working on a U405-S2826. The only thing new is the modem and audio drivers are from conexant.
Here are the drivers I found. They are on the Toshiba website, and the Intel website. To find the files on Toshiba website, just search for these filenames. Go to the toshiba driver download page for any model, then find the "Express View" link on the left of the page, and search from there.
modem and sound (might both need to be installed to work)
driver_modem_conexant_27323A.exe
driver_audio_conexant_27320D.exe
sata boot drivers, slipstream using nlite. I just selected all the drivers that come up in nlite. worked fine.
driver_intel_sata_boot.zip
The chipset drivers, graphics, and storage matrix I downloaded from the intel website unter GM965 Express Chipset. I wonder if storage matrix does anything?
Heh, I tried for the longest time to get realtek drivers to work for the audio, before I found out I needed conexant for the audio on the U405. It makes me wonder if anyone having trouble with audio might need conexant on some particular model of the U305.
Everything else I found on the normal toshiba support page for my model. fingerprint, LAN, wifi, cardreader, touchpad...
Anyway, thanks for the info -
I have an U305-S7448,
i had everything that you said, all is ok. xp sp2 is working with sound, video etc.
but i have a wi fi problem, even if i already installed the driver, wireless doesnt work.
and when im looking at the device manager, there are some yellow exclamations. 2 of them are about ethernet, and other 3 are "main system device"
where am i making a mistake?
thanks.. -
or which driver should i use?
i already installed chipset, video, audio, modem, wifi, camera, hotkey, sd memory drivers...
do you see any absense? -
-
Hi everyone, i've followed a few of your recomendations on the thread, still having a problem with modem and LAN. for the WI-FI i found that U305-S7448 has an Atheros AR5006X, attached is the driver.
About the 3 piece sata drivers re-join it with a zip splitter like the one i attach here (hjsplit.exe)
If anyone has a light in my problem with the LAN drivers, i already downloaded from realtek the RTL8139/810x drivers and doesn't work and everest shows it as the Realtek RTL8139/810x Fast Ethernet Adapter. Also haven't found the modem drivers not even the model in everest but that's not making me flip since i'll hardly will use it anyway will be nice to have it working just in case need to dial-up.Attached Files:

WinXP Sata Drivers for Toshiba U305
