I just bought a used beautiful z930, I am so impressed, it's so light and with an i7!

It has the win 8 pro in the back and I read somewhere that the Windows 8 serial is embedded in the motherboard so that should not be a problem if at some point I want to install 8. What I have a problem with is the Windows 7 installation. I purchased the computer with installed Windows 7 but I would like to wipe it clean. Is there a way to get the serial for this OS which I imagine was a downgrade from Windows 8?

How does it work when someone purchase a downgrade?

If the key is valid normally they would give you a sticker or at least a cd with it I know some recovery discs bypass the product key requirement....however if you truly believe that it may contain a real key you can run this program on this site to see the key

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

If it didn't come with a 7 disc you can simply retrieve your version from the internet here

    http://techverse.net/download-windows-7-iso-x86-x64-microsofts-official-servers/

And burn that ISO to a disk and you can TEST to see if it accepts your key do not take for granted it will like I said some recovery cds they have at the factory don't have keys and just use one that doesn't exist

That or you can buy an external drive and make a system image on it using windows 7s feature of that so you can later restore from that image

I tried that software with my current computer of which I know the windows serial and it gave me the wrong one, so I am not sure how reliable is it.

So you are saying the serial for this win 7 might have been in the installation disk itself?

W8 has it in the UEFI bios firmware hard coded and you need to disable the UEFI to be first be able to install W7 and when you do I recommend a complete wipe but also make sure before doing that you have the W8 restore disc should you ever want to go back to W8 if you sell the laptop to the next person.
