    I have a M50 and I am thinking about installing Windows 2000
Is that safe? It says it was "designed for win xp", and I was just wondering whether it will make things harder or screw stuff up if i install 2000
    Thank you

That should be fine, it's just a sticker ;). It uses the same file system (NTFS) and I don't see a problem with using the older software, if it were windows 95 or 98, then I would be worried.

Any reason for installing 2000? If you're switching from XP to 2000...I can't see much of an advantage. 2000 is supposed to be better for gaming, but XP is so versatile you can slim it down to run faster than many other OS's wih the right kinds of tweaking.

    Hi Jun85,

XP actually needs less ram on its own and is much better than 2000. My opinion of course. :) And if you turn off all advanced effects it is very fast. If you really need to go to 2000 you can.

    Cheers,

As ikovac said, you can turn off all of XP's "advanced effects" and go into classic mode for better performance. If you want to, however, you can go back down to 2000 if you so desire. I'd check with Toshiba's warranty though - installing 2000 might void it.

    Thanks for your advice everyone
I thought that 2000 would run faster than my XP.
I will give the turning off advanced settings a try
    Thanks
