Hi.I need to know,in words of one syllable,if it is possible to install XP on an old Tecra 520 CDT?There.Nice and simple.Cheers!

All depends on your specs, mostly processor and RAM. XP is nowhere near as power hungry as Vista but it depends just "how old" is your machine... 5 years?, no problem.... 10 years? not likely...

Yeah we need to know more about the machine and its specs...
I did a quick google search of the machine name and found the following specs:
Model name/No. Tecra 520CDT / PA1246U-T2xx
Processor Intel Pentium(R) 166MHz w/MMX
Memory(MAX) 32MB/160MB
HDD 2.02GB
Display Display TFT Active Matrix Color 12.1 Diagonal 800x600
Display controller C&T B65555
Video RAM 2MB
If those are the specs of your machine, then the answer to your question (can you install Windows XP) is No.
Here are the system requirements of Windows XP as listed by Microsoft:
• Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
• At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
• At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
• CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
• Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
• Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution
• Sound card
• Speakers or headphones
So again, the answer is No. -
Thibault,I guess that sorta answers my question.Good answer,by the way.Thanx!

If you post the exact specs of the notebook I can tell you for sure if you can run XP or not (but I wouldn't get my hopes up). -
What you have is practically identical to the specs that I have.In fact,Thibault, the more I think about it ,it doesn't really have to be XP at all.The Toshiba currently has Windows 98 installed, and I really only need an OS that will support a PCMCIA wireless network card.I just thought that XP would be best.I dont think W98 supports such a thing. There are a few cards on Ebay at the moment but the earliest compatible OS seems to be 98SE or ME.What say you?

I'm really not sure if there are any compatible wirelses PCMCIA cards for Windows 98.
Your best bet would be to get Windows 98SE if you can. Like you said you can find some PCMCIA cards for 98SE, and using that OS won't slow down your machine like XP would.
So in my opinion, Windows 98SE is by far your best option for what you want to do with it.
Windows XP
