We had a storm go thru our area and now my wife's laptop is
not connecting to the Internet. She connects thru a linksys router.
My computer is working as well as the other two computers on the
router. I have tried turning off and on, restarting, and then I tried the
repair option. But the system said the repair could not be completed
because the following action could not be done. "Disabling the
wireless network adapter" It then said "Make sure your network
adapter is properly installed" So I figure that it must be a bad
wireless network adapter.
The computer is a Satellite A105-S4384. My desktop is a Dell and
on their support pages they have manuals and instructions for
replacing hardware. But I have no idea what to do about a wireless
network adapter for a laptop. Is it wired to the motherboard?
Can you open the computer up and replace it? Is there somewhere
I can go to find a manual for replacing a wireless adapter?
Thanks for any help. My wife is going crazy without her Internet.

Was the laptop plugged in during the storm? It is not uncommon for computer hardware to fail as a result of running during a lightning storm.

The computer was off, but it was plugged in. I found a webpage
which seems to indicate that on the bottom of the computer is a
place where the WiFi is but I am not sure.
Thanks,

It should be under one of the removable panels on the bottom of the laptop. It will be a little board that looks kind of like a memory DIMM except it's only about an inch wide, and it will have two little coaxial cables connected to it. I'm assuming that it's an Intel 3945 here, which is what I found with a quick google. There will probably be a screw holding it down. Disconnect the little coax cables by lifting up on the connectors (gently!), then take out the screw and the board should pop up and you can lift it out. I imagine you can buy replacement 3945's from many places online.
