    Hi there,

I'm been following the new x205 sli models online for a few weeks, but they've yet to show up on display in the local stores yet. I posted in the "What Laptop should I buy" thread, but there's a very cool regard for Toshiba's in there. They are hardly ever recommended.

I'm guessing this group will be more enthusiastic, or at least more knowledgable, about the X205s.

I'm not a big gamer, but I'm looking for a 17" with a powerful processor and 2Gb+ ram. I'll use it 8-10 hours/day doing web development with large graphics files. Maybe some video processing, but I have a new desktop I typically use for that. Maybe a sports game or two, but, again, that's what the desktop is here for.

Heat is a big issue for me, and I'd like as cool a keyboard/top surface as possible.

So is getting one of the SLI's overkill, since I don't game? Should I be looking at the previous X205-9XXX series instead? It seems the SLIs have overall better specs, and it sounds like I can always disable one of the graphics cards unless I really need it. The SLI1's price is perfect for me, too.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

I think you would be fine with the X205-9349 or 9359 models I have the X205-9349 and I am very happy with it, it will do what you need and you will save quite a bit of money as they have dropped in price quite a bit the past few weeks and the palm rest and keyboard always stay very cool so heat is not an issue at all. ;) :D

In my opinion, the x205 is way to heavy to buy unless you're a gamer. You could find much lighter 17" laptops, that don't have as good graphics, but have just as good or better stuff.

For instance you could get an inspiron 1720 (or vostro 1700, same thing) 17"er, an hp pavillion dv9500t, or this toshiba http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c...&COMP_Speaker=SPKR-0004&COMP_Battery=BAT-0001

Basically, if you don't game, don't get the x205. There really isn't any point.

You might want to have a look at the HP 8710p/w as well, business class notebooks, well build and much lighter than most 17'' :)

I recommend Toshiba notebooks. I've never had a problem with mine. And mine is not a high end one. As far as tech support, they are no better or no worse than any other brand. Actually they pretty much all suck at support. :p

Good to know Toshiba has some support. The P200/205 does look intriguing. Thanks.

more than just game, an entertainment system to go, especially with those great speakers and big bright screen.
