I have an Sli1 and I am trying to get the digital signal from the supposed S/PDIF output for my receiver so that i can get true surround sound from my dvd's. I am wondering if anyone knows what type of output the jack has on the SLi1. I emailed a website i found with 3.5mm to optical cables and this is the response i got:

"Hi.What cable you use is going to depend on if the SPDIF out of the computer is optical or electrical. Do you have any specs stating the SPDIF type?If it is optical, then this cable will work: http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio...oslink-cable/pof-t3-mr-1m/prodPIM00053.htmlif it is not optical, we may need to suggest a simple converter. Please let me know. Thank you "

Does anyone know if the SPDIF output is optical or electrical? I am guessing that it is electrical but was hoping someone would know for sure.

thanks for the help, but the question has become what exactly is the signal type coming out of the jack. I have tried the 3.5mm to RCA, but i havent been able to get the digital signal (instead my receiver is picking up a stereo signal and virtualizing the surround sound from that stereo signal). What i am trying to figure out is whether i need the optical or coaxial cable to pick up the digital signal going to my receiver so that i can get the true dolby digital surround sound to my receiver. The picture of the optical coaxial jack is correct but im just not sure which one will work with the output on our notebooks.

Also. Im not sure if you will have to do this but under sound setting i have to set my spdif to "default" for it to send the signal. Just remember when you are finished to set you laptop speakers back to default or you will not have any sound.
