Hi all,
I've recently purchased the X205-S9349 version with the EXTREME Core 2 duo X9000 (2.8GHZ) and 4GB DDR2 RAM, 8700M GT.
I'm currently running Windows Vista Premium and Benchmarked it with 3Dmark06 with a low score of 4600.
I was wondering where i can download the latest driver for 8700M GT? i've also updated the Windows SP1 for Vista and it doesn't seem to run any faster or improve on the Benchmark.
I'm playing Dawn of War Soultorm, LAG FREE.... great graphics and runs very very smooth. Only thing is the Benchmark which is annoying me a lil.
Any help would greatly appreciated.

Try 174.60. It can be found in their "Community Forum" in the sub-forum "Release 174.xx drivers". Download the driver and the modded inf, and put the modded inf in the driver folder after you click on it and it extracts itself. then run the setup application. Note: HD-DVDs will no longer play with the Toshiba HD-DVD player.

Thanks for your quick reply, i will definately try to update it and test the benchmark again, i'll post the results to see if it makes any difference.
I've seen some post on this forum of people getting 6k and 7k points on 3dmark06, would the windows make any difference in getting high scores like that for this particular model i have?
Does anyone else have a similar laptop specs getting higher or same benchmark scores? -
I've just tested it out with the new driver for the video card.
Still doesnt seem to move much...Attached Files:

you might try the 169 series too, the 169.61 gave me the biggest increase in my 3dMark score. Also if you do some searching there are threads explaining how to make these drivers work with the HD player. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17288

You should use nTune to overclock your graphics card. That will give you some noticeable gains in 3DMark. Unfortulately, the HD-DVD mod that abehanna mentions doesn't allow overclocking, so you either get to watch movies or you overclock and get better performance in games.

I am using the 174.31 drivers that are whql certified with the included inf file that works with the 8600M GT and 8700M GT you just have to install the driver by pointing to the drivers folder the manual way,I have not tested them with 3DMark06 yet but I might and see if it is better that the 9254 score I got with the 169.09 drivers.
-
Thanks for your suggestions, will definately try another driver.
But must i have to overclock to really see the difference?
I just tried the lates 174.60 driver last night and played Crysis on it with high settings, first it lagged but once i restarted my comp after the install it seems to work fine.
I might try and overclock it to see if i can play that on VERY HIGH settings lol.
Thanks for the feedback though. -
I finally got my T9300 cpu today and run a quick test with 3Dmark06
everything stock i got 5237 points which i think it's good. I will overclock the gpu and see if i can make it over 6000 or not. With the old Cpu T7100 i was getting 5400-5600 points when i overclocked the GPU....

Here is the Test under Vista.
Unfortunately i am having problems with XP on my laptop , no sound, USB ports stopeed working after installed the chipset driver and can't overclock the gpu under XP but the base score turned out to be 5567 and here is a score under Vista which came with the computer but the GPU overclocked....
6353.... 776/1552/887
6483....756/1595/936
sorry but ,can't upload the image. -
Oh.
Thanks for the update, i'll try a new driver to see if i can get any improvement... otherwise i'll have to overclock my card to see if it makes any diff. -
your 4800 seems like it's fairly accurate, back when i was benchmarking the single 8700 versus the SLI 8600's , at stock clock speeds i was getting mid 4k's with the single gpu.
-
Well i benchmarked it last night and got over 5k.... i overclocked it to 705/800
i think it was about 5200 or so...on 3dmark06
it seems pretty good but my laptop was on about 55-59 Degrees celcius....
I tried crysis again on the new driver 174.60 and it seems alright, although on my other game now...the txt is gone a little blury.... -
Well as i said earlier I got 5237 in Vista and 55xx on XP without overclocking the video card.
I am using the 174.60 driver as well, but with oc 756/1595/936 I got 6483 points in 3dm06 if you give an email i can send the screen shot of it.
Be77solo
pls can you give me info where can i get proper drivers for XP ? other then EU Toshiba website !? My sounds card don't work and also have trouble with USB prorts after I installed the chpiset driver.
Thnx -
Belca, my email is [email protected]
I haven't overclock to 756/1595/936 as yet... i've tried under 700/800 lol...i didnt want to over do it as this is still new to me.
Im also running the same model as you
Toshibax205 x9000 penryn, 4gb DDr2 & 8700GT.
so i guess its pretty much the same. What sort of games are you running on your system? i find that Vista takes up alot of memory.... i think i would prefer to run the laptop on Windows XP. -
You know be77solo - after the 2 video cards were replaced on my sli1 I cannot overclock them, they may not have put the cooling paste on properly and I am debating weather to tear it down again and put AS5 and ceramique on there like before. Cause I was able to overclock with no problems before and now it locks up every time and I need to reboot the laptop in XP and Vista, but since I should be getting my XPS M1730 next week I really don't want to mess with the sli1 one too much so I won't damage anything but I am debating weather to do it or not other than that it work fine and my temps never go above 82c on both cards.
-
damn..i just benchmarked it tonight and got over 5k with no overclock...and then i benchmarked it again after i overclocked it to 780 core 825 memory. then i tried boosting the core up to 815 and memory to 850 with it becoming unstable then...
-
Did you try the HD Audio hotfix? It's something like KB888111. I slipstreamed that into the XP install, and had no problems.... but, if you don't have it installed, then it won't recognize the audio bus properly in XP... I'd try that first, then I'd install the the latest audio drivers from the Realtek site for the HD Audio codec. The EU site has some good stuff, but for Audio and video i did use the laptop2go and Realtek stuff.
-
I sure wouldn't worry about it ha, but that's me... I hated tearing into the thing lol
Is wierd though, maybe they gave you some neutered cards to keep ya in line ha
Mine is acting funny with the card reader on the front, for some reason mine won't read any flash media cards anymore? wierd... and my dang volume knob still is acting crazy! Annoying, and can't help but wonder if it's not something i didn't mess up during my teardown and rebuild.
So what'd ya buy man? What are the specs on the new machine? shoot me a private message, curious what ya got! -
I was able to upload the screen shot here so now you can see my score....
Thanks for the info of the HOT fix I will change the hard drive and start wroking on it as I am sure under XP I could almost reach 7000 if i find a way to overclock the card .... but so far Riva Tuner and 174.60 driver don't work together.... -
Mst6ken thnx for the email but i was able to upload the image here so you can see the test results here.
I have installed COD4 runs great on full setting 1440*900 4xaa , DIRT,STALKER, Gears Of war , FAR CRY ,Crysis DX10 setting medium /high no AA NFS Pro Street, Unreal Tournaament, Settlers 6.
So far I am very pleased with this machine. of course there are always something better out there.
I wanted to ask you something the X9000 seria CPU can run up to 3.4 ghz
There is any way you can overclock the cpu in your Toshiba ? -
while we are here and after everybody that has upgraded the cpu in the x205's...could someone please email me the x205 disassembly guide?? godsmack56 at hotmail .com
im really interested in upgrading my processor after those benchmarks i posted earlier. -
be77solo - I think I am going to leave it alone, everything works fine on mine except like yours were the volume knob always acts funny and you turn it up and the volume will go down and then up on it's own, so I don't use it anymore.
Update: I could not leave it alone and I am glad I took it apart again, I found that the techie that put the video cards in neglected to see some excess epoxy on some of the memory chips left from the manufacturing of the cards which was keeping the heatsink from making proper contact with the both the gpu and memory chips. Well I put some ceramique on the memory and AS5 on the gpu's and now I just need to test this baby which I am using to type this message.

Belca, I'm pretty new to Laptop Overclocking.... im just seeing what this machine can do, its my first laptop and the most expensive one i've bought lol.... I heard it can do up to 3.4ghz as well... i mean 2.8ghz is already good...as most of the people are only using 1.8 to 2.4ghz at the moment....
I just wanted to see why my system isn't performing as good as the rest of the laptops on here...
My factory settings for 8700m GT is 675 core and 750 mem.... i dont know why it wont do 5k on the factory one.... although when i play crysis it seems okay to me.
I might try and overclock 2.8gh to 3.0 and then slowly to 3.4gh this weekend.
I'll post some pictures up if you want.
I'm still trying to get COD4 to test out the graphics on that as well...cause it plays pretty good on my PS3 online. -
Diablo85 are you still using the 1.8ghz with 8700m GT card? Cause that's some interesting results you've got there ..... i dont know why with my system... 2.8ghz with the same 8700m GT card.... im getting less results for that?
Which driver are you using for that? and i believe its Vista Ultimate you are using as well? -
indeed i am using a C2D t5550 1.83ghz processor (no overclock) with the 8700m GT card. and i believe that i was using 174.31 drivers last night when i benchmarked. im also using 4gb kingston ram with vista ultimate 64 bit...

New Test Results ...
I was able to make XP work finally so here is a new test
6661 points with 8700GT not bad at all ........... -
Belca, looks like i'll be downgrading to XP dude....
Seems like it performs alot better on XP than it is on Vista. -
not bad at all...but not quite enough to make me want to downgrade to xp...not to mention that it would be a waste of $400 bucks...damn microsoft.
Belca, do you have the x205 disassembly guide handy or no? if you do...shoot me an email or something, please? -
Under Vista I was able to squeeze out 6483 and with XP i just got up to 6770........

http://rapidshare.com/files/63294352/X205_Disassembly_Guide.pdf This is where i got it from but if it dosen't work i can send it to you via email....

Well looks like that's as far as it goes ....
6886 i will play with it later but for now i had enough ... -
Well after the epoxy removal and ceramique application job on my newly replaced video cards, here are 2 scores on my sli1 the first was with both cards at stock speeds and the second overclocked to 575/850:
Update: 3-28-08 07:31PM - For fun I used Acronis True Image to restore my XP installation and attached are the scores I got at overclocked settings of 575/850 and then at 600/900. From these results I did see that they indeed had not installed my video cards properly at the Toshiba Authorized service center, 3DMark06 would crash when trying an overclock of 550/800 before I took it apart and cleaned off some excess epoxy glue from the memory chips and put some ceranique pasted on the memory chips and AS5 on the gpu's.
I decided to overclock using Rivatuner 2.08 instead of ntune and took it to 600/900 again and ran 3DMark06 and this time I got a score of 9213 so it seems the overclocking bugs were worked out in Rivatuner with version 2.08, I also monitored the temps on my video cards while under load and they never went higher than 78c while playing Crysis and with the cards overclocked to 600/900.

Belca, I love you! thank you so much for the disassembly guide...i've been asking for it since i became a member about 2 months ago!
every time i tried to download it from the rapidshare link, it would download 3kb of the file and say that the file has finished downloading...i dont know why...but thanks again for sending me the file

Well I just installed Xrysis for XP and what can i tell you the optimal settings
is HIGH everything is on HIGH SETTING 1024x768 no AA runs like a charm .
I know it's not DX10 but still I am glad i changed to XP .....
Jesse !? Your Test was running in 1280x800.... but very nice scores .
I will try till i break the 7000 .... then it will be history lol at least with the 8700 GT -
how many frames per second are you getting at that resolution?
-
I get about 20fps avarge.... but I will try later if i overclock toh GPU to the max .... should gain a few fps more but it's playable on 20fps....

Yea it was at 1280x800, I have not been able to get it to do 1280x1024 and this under Vista, under XP I usually get around 9254 score with the same overclock and same settings.
