So my S9349 is on the way. I've already purchased a T7300 to drop into it when it arrives. My question is, why do they combine an 800MHz FSB CPU with 667MHz DDR2 memory? What is the true FSB speed of the entire system?

If you purchased 800MHz Memory (PC-6400) and threw it in there would it run at 800MHz? Would there be any noticeable operational difference? And if so is it worth the cost of the memory to do it?

Any input would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

The speed of the memory and the FSB of the CPU are completely unrelated. The "true" FSB of the system is 800MHZ, but that only relates to the CPU.

In order to run 800MHZ DDR2, you would need a motherboard that supported it. Otherwise it will just run at the highest speed supported, usually 667.

I don't believe the 800MHZ DDR2 is worth the expense, but if your mobo supports it and you want the fastest, then go ahead and spend it. 667 is fine for most ppl. Also, you might want to consider more RAM (2-4GB) is better than 1-2GB of faster RAM. 4GB requires 64-bit Vista though.
