I agree. Just bought this thing a couple days ago and it's been running Bioshock on high settings flawlessly. There shouldn't be any reason you'd be unable to upgrade the ram.

Yes, you can upgrade the RAM, as citizenkaine mentioned. However, if you choose to install more than 3 GB, be aware that in any 32-bit OS, only 3.2 to 3.5 GB of the RAM will be seen. If there is anymore physical RAM, the computer cannot use it, unless you install a 64-bit OS.

thanks guys! i got one more question though. does the higher end one have a 64-bit OS? i have been interested in computers for about 5 years now and i have much to learn. im only 15 years old. the only thing i know not much about is stuff on any OS. so yeah... are they both 32-bit?

I'm afraid both are 32-bit. Upgrading to 4GB is still quite beneficial though.

I'm playing Dawn of War: Dark Crusade on mine right now as I write this. =P I love my X205. *squee*

i was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to upgrade the CPU in the X205. I'm planning on getting the one with the T7300. Seeing as Intel just cut the price of the T7700 by a hefty amount, and is now around $300ish. Having said that, is there much of a performance difference between a T7300 and T7700. I know 0.4Ghz difference isnt much, but it seems the T7700 is rather speedy

I would think any laptops CPU is changeable as long as the CPU socket and FSB are the same should be just like a desktop only you have to figure out how to get to the CPU socket, cool it, and determine if voiding your warranty is worth it. I'm not gunna take that project until after my warranty runs out and then i'll revisit the idea.

Processor uprades don't make much difference to verall speed. They will only affact performance in processor dependant tasks, and even then, its not worth the extra cost of buying a processor. Its a much better idea to spend on the money on more RAM, and/or a faster hard disk. They will improve speed a fair bit more.

I'll take the opportunity to use this thread opened by Danny in order to ask you a question regarding the S9549 .

Does anyone knows how it performs in the Video Editiong area from a Digital Video Camera to Notebook through the firewire connection ?
I am afraid that the 5400rpm disks slows a lot the process compared with a 7200 rpm disk .

Yeah, thats also another thing I was wondering about. does the 5200 Rpm disk make a HUGE difference in the computer than the 7200 rpm disk? and does it affect gaming by even a small amount? Because some sources say that crysis ran very smoothly on an x205 and that is one of the reasons i wanna get it. if it can run crysis on medium-high settings then that is one powerful notebook!

The fact that you can access two hdd at the same time (especially if you store program and data on separate disk) also make access faster than a single hdd system.

I am still searching for the most optimized way to store data separately on 2 disks.
    But imagine this...
For single disk system, disk has to spin once to access Data A, then next spin to access Data B.
For double disk system, Disk A can spin to access Data A, while Disk B can spin to access Data B - all at the same time, effectively become a 10,800 rpm whole!!

I was looking at ram upgrades at Toshiba and they want $140 for a 1GB stick and $900 for 2GB.

What gives with the big price difference?

I couldn't find anything to fit it at Kingston or Corsair but Crucial has an entire 4GB kit for a much lower price.

Any advice on this and voided warranty problems with changing ram to another manufacturer would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Wonder if a DDR3 800MHz ram upgrade fits the sockets of X205??

I don't know yet about DDR3 but I read a post earlier stating that 667 is all that will go. Won't run 6400 or 800Mhz.

I can't see buying a stick of ram that's almost half the cost of the lap itself.

Wonder if you could get a straight answer out of Toshiba as to exactly what you get for $900?

Thanks Slenser, I also found it at memory ten. It is the exact same part number as the Toshiba site and looks to be manufactured by Samsung which makes sense. It is $130 for a 2GB stick versus $900 at Toshiba. That blows me away.
I'll try to send a link for memory 10 if I can get it to work. http://www.memoryx.net/pa3513u1m2g.html
