After reading this forum for the last two weeks, I ordered the SLi3 and it arrived today!
After deleting a bunch of software, loading a bunch of software, I think I got this thing where it needs to be.
One thing I noticed is that that it randomly makes a single beep that is rather high pitched. It mainly happens when downloading, installing or deleting programs. It also happens just surfing the net.
This is primarily a work/travel laptop so I think it is rather distracting when doing presentations.
Anybody else have this? Any thoughts on how to get rid of it?

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Make sure you have your sound drivers installed, because if I can recall, that is the Beep driver going off.
Mike. -
Scifimike- Thanks for the thought. Under device manager it says that the realtek hi=def audio drivers are up to date.

Do you check the built in mic volume, on my Qosmio happens the I have a weird beep when doing downloading, playing movies and other stuff and appear to be the mic volume the reflects every sound the machine do including the HDD stripping through the speakers...
-
Skylander-good idea...went into RealTek audio and muted the mic and I thought it solved it, but it came back.
The beep sounds just like at start up, but is so random. Getting to be annoying. -

Oh something else, try go to restore point to see if the beep goes if not go back to the updates settings...

What BIOS do you have? Maybe the recently released BIOS updates will fix the problem?...from the above list, I highlighted the listing where the BIOS is stated to correct something about beeping. If you do try a Flash BIOS, be warned, do it correctly! Check the other thread "Windows BRICKED my X205 flashing the 1.60 BIOS" to learn from others' misfortunes.
Good Luck in getting rid of the beep, however you figure it out. -
i seem to remember something from class about the beeps during boot from internal components is the startup diagnostics. (learning about this this last week). do you have a default device setup for your mic, midi playback, voice playback, recording and whatnots? maybe its just not detecting something it thinks it should see.

Guiness,
The only time I have heard beeps from my X205 was when the battery was running low, it gives an audio warning to hook up to AC power.
Hope this helps,
Jeeps -
All-thanks for your replys and inputs.
I am not competent enough to flash the BIOS and after looking around the device manager, I still can not find anything that gives any indication that it is amiss.
This chirp is so random that I just can not narrow it down to a cause. the sound is coming from the bottom speaker on the side of batter lock lever. Sometimes with it just sitting there with no programs opened (except background ones) it makes a double chirp and sometimes just a single one.
I guess I just need to take it to a shop. -
Odd, that is the sub-woofer.
-
Are you sure it isnt your CPU speedstepping? What cpu do you have?
-
According to the Gears of War label it is a Core 2 Processor T7500.
If that is what your thinking, do you know how to turn the audio notification off?
