    Hey folks,

I'm new to the board and haven't seen enough discussion on the X205-Sli3. I travel a good bit due to work and I'm a gamer at heart. Anything goes for me really in game taste, but mostly FPS, RPG, and sim type games.

Anyone have opinions on the X205-Sli3? Worth it for the price or are there better options? If I bought it, I am hoping that this laptop could keep up with current games and perhaps those released in the next two years.

    Comments are appreciated. Thanks!

There is a review of the Sli3 in the notebook review section of this forum, but for the money this rigs gaming performance can't be touched, + HD -DVD player and huge harddrive. I have the SLi1 and love it plays games very well, and will keep up with games for years to come, Ive seen the SLi3 for $2250 a real bargain.

I have an X205-Sli3 and I love it. I play the same genres as you do, and it runs them pretty well. I tears through AOE III with no problem.....although, I haven't tested the new drivers I installed, but I say it is well worth the money. I am a college student and I travel between my parent's home and my dorm room quite often and almost every weekend I judge debate rounds at local high schools and I always take this baby with me. As long as you get a decent sized backpack (I have a 17 inch targus XL....I think), the weight really isn't an issue. I don't know if this tells you much, but with the latest drivers, I am getting about 6745 in 3Dmark06. I highly recommend it.

I have an X205-Sli1 and I absolutely freaking love it. It completely replaced my previous desktop. Only thing I would suggest is installing XP or better as Vista runs like complete crap IMO.
I finally have mine all customized and tweaked out after spending about 2 weeks fixing driver issues and whatnot. But it runs WoW perfectly at highest settings I get a steady 50-60FPS in raids.. it drops by about 10 while frapsing. Only FPS I have tested it with is Stormfront but that runs smooth as butter.
Got a 7324 in 3Dmark06 last night, 8052 with the video cards overclocked.
I imagine the Sli3 can only do better.

It has the best sounding speakers I've ever heard on a laptop period. Perfect for music and movies. It even has a freaking mini subwoofer.

The funny thing is I could still milk some more out of this machine. It was pretty much the best deal I could possibly find after doing a ton of research... and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Solid machine all around.

The only downside in my opinion is the short battery life, but that's to be expected on such a powerful machine.. no real gamer plays on batteries anyway though.

Thanks. I agree for the money, this laptop does seem to have the best bang for the buck. I've read some online review, but was hoping to hear from folks that actually owned this before I dropped $2K+.

Battery isn't a concern to me as I will be mobile, but on AC 99% of the time. How about the 5600 rpm drives? Anyone had any serious issue with this?

Also, I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading the RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB? I thought I read somewhere that even though the specs claim it is upgradable there is a BIOS limitation that limits the RAM to 2 GB. Anyone confirm this?

It supports 4GB of ram, I'm upgraded a few weeks ago... the only limitation is 32bit operating systems, as they only allow you to use 3GB, but that's a limit to every machine, not specific to this one. To utilize all 4 Gigs you have to install a 64bit OS. But, the machine supports 4GB no problem.

And, I agree, it's a great machine for the money.... it's possible to beat the performance, but it's gonna cost a good bit more. Hard to beat the SLi1 for about $1800-1900, and the SLi3 is a bit faster. I personally prefer the 1440x900 resolution over the SLi3's higer res, but thats just my personal taste. You'll get a slightly faster CPU and the higher res screen, along with Vista ultimate with the 3, so your call whether it's worth it, but both are great machines.

Also, I personally like Vista, nothing I've tried has had ANY problems, but I am running a clean reinstall, which I HIGHLY recommend. The newer drivers have really improved performance notiecably over the stock Toshiba drivers.
