    Its not the laptop's fault, its the <s>porn</s> internet sites connection, or maybe firewall issues.

    Is it bittorent?

    Bittorent is usually used for illegal downloads, but there are plenty of legal downloads on there.

    Legal movies/music? Hmm. Maybe a subscription to yahoo music or whatever the company that doesnt use DRM is.

    DRM = Satan

    90% likely that it's your internet connection. You cant do anything other than upgrading to a faster speed with your internet provider.

    Get rid of mcafee! I had nothing but problems with mcafee internet security all it did was screw up every single download and made it near impossible for me to work on my Cisco wireless network gear. See what happens if you disable it and than try downloading your stuff. Personally I would get Symantec Antivirus if you don't want any problems like that.

    I've used McAfee for 5 years... no problems at all, never had to restore my PC even once!

    Laptop came with 90 day Symantec trial, I uninstalled it straight away and installed my McAfee 2008, works fine.

    Just remember that when you install McAfee on a Vista PC, you HAVE TO HAVE YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION AVAILABLE! there is a specific download you need to install it. I noticed that my CD only spun for the duration of starting up the installation, the rest of the installation was online and it downloaded everything it needed for a Vista Installation.

    Hmm..that is odd because I have never had any problems with Symantec and nothing but problems with McAfee. Of course 90% of the problems I had was with it not being very compatible with using the web based setup for my Cisco wireless routers.

    Tony Z is officially the first happy customer with McAfee!!! *loud fanfare and music*

    Jk...ish.

    But seriously, I work for my college in computing services, I get people all the time with slow internet or it not working at all, and alot of the times it has to do with McAfee (or any other "intrusive" type anti-malware)

    I've known a few people who have had trouble with slow sluggish McAfee before. Its usually because of 1 or more of the below;

    1. they have never used a firewall/ virus scanner before and decided to install it after finding out they had viruses to get rid of them
    2. they had a different virus scanner / firewall and uninstalled it and then installed McAfee in place of it
    3. they have installed an old 2005 or 2006 version on a new computer and tried to register for DAT file updates
    4. they had problems with the package due to the fact that a trojan / worm had infected most .exe files including the McAfee run ones, therefore eating up memory anyway and McAfee cant get rid because its not working!

    and many other causes...

    I have had in the past, problems with Norton, it ate alot of memory even without having anything else open. Back in the day, booting up 'windows ME' took ages due to the fact that it run a scan everytime before it came to the Login Screen. It also wanted to ask permission for every picture, box and word when opening a webpage! (these where with the DEFAULT! settings too! pretty annoying).

    I guess everyone has their own opinions and at least one user-friendly anti-virus company suitable for their needs, McAfee does the job for me ;)

    Well put. Personally I dont run any anti-virus. Windows firewall, and careful browsing/downloading does it for me. Plus the fact that I usually wipe my HDD clean every month or two probably helps.

    Lol, to each their own.
