I just saw the upcoming Best Buy ad. They going to have this model for $1350 + free bioshock and airborne this coming week. Anyone know the spec for this particular model? I only see it has 8700M GT and 1.3m webcam.
And, is toshiba laptop bought in BB serviced by geeksquad or can I purchase extended service plan from Toshiba and repaired by their repair shop?
Thanks.

It's basically the same thing as the X205-S9349, but with a T5450 Core 2 Duo CPU (1.66GHz), instead of a T7100 (1.8GHz), and minus the HD-DVD, and turbo memory. Everything else looks the same.
-
There s something else. The nvidia videocard 8700m GT comes with 256 mb but gddr2 wtf? didnt know this model.
-
-
Where do you guys find the specs? I did search on google and couldn't find anything.
-
can anyone verify that it is GDDR2? I can get it tomorrow
it says I can pick it up at the best buy store!
-
-
Anywhere on toshiba site itself?
-
yeah I saw that...oops!
-
none of the 8700gt cards are ddr2...there all gddr3 so dont worry about it.
-
-
I'm trying to get one today since the website said I can order one online and pick it up in store!
-
-
Plus no Santa Rosa platform in this model... -
I've gotten the laptop today.....I haven't open it yet...I'm currently at a Starbucks and I'll let you guys know how it runs.......The Best Buy customer service girl was saying wow we're giving away $100 worth of games....until she saw the deal herself.....The box is in my car now...I'm on my XPS M1330 since I'm at Starbucks.....can't wait to get home and try my new toy.....this is a good steal....for people who can't wait....it better be worth every dollar!

Here is the official tech spec sheet from the Toshiba site.
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com//content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/satellite_X205-S7483.pdf
(found it by guessing the link on one of the other X205 products.) -
Looks like GDDR2 for the 8700M GT is confirmed. -
its already been posted that it is gddr3 ram duran posted a screen and checked his clocks on his system.. he confirned it was ddr3.. i think that the toshiba's page is wrong and that is also probably where best buy that info from and the reason the web page is wrong also

i still dont know if that system is worth 1450 after tax.. when the amazon one is only 100 more and you get more with it..
-
-
I'm REALLY glad Toshiba's actively making gaming systems, as Dell has started to really overcharge for some of their stuff. -
Yeah, after some heavy thought, I went with Amazon for 1579, can't beat that. If the price drops within 30 days on Amazon, you can get the difference.
Even sweeter, I signed up for trial of Prime, so I get free 2 day shipping! -
you do know that the amazon one has a rebate that has to be sent in right. you will pay 100$ more for it now... some dont seem aware of this just making sure...
i really want to order that amazon one but its just over my 1500$ limit the wife says i can spend.. man it sucks -
In the past I've had no issues with Amazon rebates. Hopefully that's still true!
-
i have a freind who works at best buy as a dept manager he said to come in tomm and he said he can get me 10% off the best buy toshiba.. so it will cover my taxes and i can walk out for 1300.05$ if thats the case im gonna get it no questions asked. then swap out my hdd, cpu, and ram and sell of the original stuff.. we'll see tomm i may be the new owner of a x205...
im just concered with the size of this thing, all the reviews i have seen say its basically freakin huge... -
-
almost everyday lol...
-
You're a real man like Hellbore! -
its listed on toshiba web site now:
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/rdet.jsp?poid=394305&seg=HHO
also i spoke with a freind who is a manager at best buy and he said he called toshiba and they told him it was in fact ddr2 ram??? i thought when duran posted clocks vereyone said it was in fact ddr3.. he said toshiba swore to them it was ddr2 hae asked a few times and they said no its not ddr3.. wtf?? i will not buy this one if it really is ddr2. they told him the card was overclocked with ddr2 ram on it??? doesnt make sense.. anyone know any more?? -
-
-
Nooooo! Say it isn't so!!
-
You snooze you lose
-
I don't really see why it matters though, are you planning on overclocking it?
-
-
DDr3 is faster because it can be clocked higher, hence my question.
-
umm no even at stock speeds ddr3 is faster AND it can be clocked higher
-
Hey bwhxeon, what was wrong with the Vostro? If I don't keep my Macbook Pro, I'm thinking of either a Dell or one of these x205s...
And what brand converter do I need to take the x205's HDMI output to a normal DVI monitor? -
Just get the one on amazon really doesn't sound like you know what your getting into. The cpu alone limits the notebook and now your talking about clock speeds being inefficient.
-
As for buying one of these x205 models I really don't think its such a good idea, the cpu is just way to slow and a upgrade alone is like another 200-300$. I've heard good things about the macbook pro, especially with overclocks on the 17.1 model. You might also want to take a look at the t61p model i use. Here is the overclock thread I made. I only recommend the t61p more because its a whole lot cheaper and has a few neat gadgets built in, but the build quality on the mac and lenovo is very good. -
I've actually got a Macbook Pro (for like half a week
), and generally it's pretty nice. The audio quality through headphones is excellent (unlike Dell). Nothing weird's happened with it so far.
But...I've got really mixed feelings about OS X. Love it in some ways, really dislike it in others (HATE the antialiasing, HATE the mouse acceleration, etc.). I know I could just buy a copy of Vista and throw that on there, but...
I also hate how it feels like I'm not allowed to run the CPU at full blast-it gets really hot, the fans run at full blast, and it seems like it's not really designed to be run that way (I want to run Folding @ Home on these things whenever they're on).
I also really miss Palm Desktop (the real, Windows version that is).
Really not sure what to do... -
As for the fans, what is that thing, a helicopter? -
Just so you know i went into bestbuy here in montana and this model was on up for display. Probably spent over an hour talking with their tech support to find out what the deal is with the graphics card. They finally started calling around and both toshiba and nvidia told them its a DDR2 model.
-
Dang it, I was going to go for one of these, and then I see HP's got Geforce 8600GS's in their systems (FINALLY) for even less. Is the GS a HUGE performance hit over the 8600/8700GT? I'm not sure how it's crippled.
EDIT: Nevermind, moot point as the HPs don't have digital output (I want to use this mostly hooked to a monitor). -
I have to say wow guys. I posted a picture of the clock speeds of the BB X205 clock GPU speeds....in the other board. but anyways here they are....
-
those are ddr2 clocks no idea why you where told otherwise.....the memory should be at least around the 800 range this is the site i use for comparisons. They only list clocks for the highest clocked model. Just so you know, never heard of gpu's being under clocked that much so thats why i'm sure its ddr2.
-
we need a few others with the other model x205's to post the same screen so we can compare to see what they are running at...
