    Contact Toshiba Support.

Roll back the Bios. Does Toshiba also have the 2.80 bios for download ?

    Thanks for the reply

Toshiba have changed the old bios 2.80 to 2.90, so they only have 2.90 now, but maybe i can download 2.80 elsewhere.

I dont use the original toshiba nvidia drivers, but drivers from "laptopvideogo", could this have something to say?.

Another question, how do i take a complete recovery....F8?. Maybe this could solve the problem

It seems the new bios have locked the darkest brightness setting...damn annoying

Have installed the old 2.80 bios agian, but the same crap. No matter that i do the brightness is locked to darkest. Dragging the brightness slider have no impact anymore now

I personally think it's the nvidia drivers you installed. I've read many times that NON-manufacturer vid drivers for laptops can cause a lot of problems (manufacturers have specific settings and specific drivers the nvidia has/or doesn't have)

Maybe try installing Toshiba graphics drivers.

Keep us updated with your progress.

    Problem solved!!!!

Had to take a windows recovery, and voila the brightness working, and not only that but because of the 2.90 bios the screen is now very very bright. The 2.90 bios only make the screen brighter as i understand.

PS: i have the full HD screen and i am very happy with the screen now

    Damn!!

I wish I knew this before. I chose the lesser 720p screen because of the 1080p brightness issues!

Anyways, it's good to know that you worked it out.

That's a very strange BIOS update, it makes me wonder whether your screen was actually set to full brightness to begin with.

EDIT: Where did you get BIOS 2.90? I only see 2.80 on all of the Qosmio models.

I downloaded it from Toshiba Norway, but i cant get in now because its closed due to main service.

The screen was set to highest brightness from beginning, but with new bios 2.90 its even brighter.I am sitting in a lit room but have to turn down the brightness with 50%.

The 2.90 description says it will iprove the maximum brightness

That's very interesting...how much would you say it increases the brightness?

Yepp...you was right, it was the modded nvidia drivers who caused the problem, so now i am stucked with the old Toshiba drivers, but hey they are good to :D

I would stay away from modded drivers, but however, have you tried to upgrade to lastest version from nVidia? Toshiba's drivers are not good at all.

New bios make the screen much more bright. As I said before I don't like to burn my eyes with too much brightness and even before I was using 6/8 brightness setting.

Now with the new bios I lowered my brightness setting from 6/8 to 4/8. My eyes say that there is nearly %25 increase in brightness.

BTW, I'm interested about modded drivers. Is it possible to modify further moded drivers to fit latest qosmio models? May be we can move toshiba drivers delta to new moded drivers if the delta is only in .inf files (or other plain text files), not in compiled driver files. Anyone having knowledge about that?

nvidia drivers cannot be installed and raise an error message. So this is not even an option unfortunately.

last night while checking the US Toshiba download site they had the 2.90 bios update for my Q892. Reading the release notes it mentioned something about APCI, and not knowing what it was I was hoping it had to do with the power saving feature that I'm assuming is decreasing the performance while gaming unplugged.

I googled APCI and it came up with something about power interface and configuration. I was so excited thinking Toshiba has listened to my complaint about the X505's not being able to game with full performance when unplugged, so I rushed to install the BIOS, crossing my fingers hoping it would solve the problem.

After the update, I loaded FRAPS and ran Call of Duty 4, to test it. With the notebook still plugged in, I had a count of 60+ fps, then I said a little prayer before pulling out the plug then I pulled it, and guess what....THE FRAMERATES DROPPED DOWN TO 15 FPS! AAAAARRRGGGHHH! I hate you Toshiba! very much. Oh BTW I don't see any difference of brightness on my screen. heh...

Well, you are hoping too much then.. Be care full about those BIOS updates. A update for x300's created a random BIOS password. They fixed it about 6 months later.. But we were not able to acesess any BIOS by the time. And no, Toshiba won't listen to you ;)

Trust me dude, I was one of the few who tried to give toshiba a chanse and keep everything alive, but guess what? Now, even I'm done.

I guess, ever since I got my x205 sli1 back in 2007, I compare the quality of that machine to my next Toshiba, the x305 q701, the build quality seemed to take a hit, not being as solid and sturdy, more plastic etc., and now the x505 downgrading the harmon kardon audio by just equipping only two midrange speakers as opposed to the previous 2 notebooks which both had 4 (2 treble, 2 midrange) and a subwoofer, and then the calls to Toshiba tech support that have representatives that aren't very knowledgeable, besides reading a trouble shooting guide on their end, which infact the guy told me he had to google the problem, and still couldn't figure it out, and the same for level 2 tech support. IDK, just as long as this X505 is pushing BFBC2 I'm satisfied, and I don't think I want to carry this around to much, since I didn't get any extended warranty on it. But surprisingly I got all 3 generation of Toshiba's flagship Gaming notebook at $1000 bucks give or take a hundred. I forgive Toshiba for trying to bring legit PC gaming to the masses, and I think that was their goal all along.

lol, I had to call Toshiba they forwared me to 4 diffrent numbers before one could note down my question. They did take my phone number, laptop modell etc. and they said they were going to call me back... Guess what? This is about 3 weeks ago, and I have still not recived an answer.

If you buy a Toshiba laptop, you must know how to fix it on your own, or something like this!

They did not even help me out when their offisial BIOS update locked me out of BIOS settings, they wanted me to send it in to them... I wonder how long that would take... BTW. I think Toshiba don't even have a center in Norway, as everytime I call them they speak Swedish... I'm just glad it is not Danish... However, or they like to pay cheap, as it is full of Swedish workers all over the Norway atm..
