Mine did this after a few weeks. What I noticed was the problem went away when the fans were at full speed. I haven't had it come back for months, but when it does I just do a few hours of gaming with Crysis.

Let us know if it helps.

    Thanks for your time alexmuw

Mine laptop does exactly the opposite of yours. Its after gaming its worst. For the most time then i turn it on and only use the laptop to internetsurfing its silent.

I realy dont want to send it in to repair becouase i only have this pc, and i am sure a repair would take months.

Does software to adjust the cpu fans speed exists?

    Thanks in advance

    PS: sorry for my english

If it's like mine (sounds like a motor boat), then it does start out loud, but when gaming for 30 mins or so, it goes away; like there's dust in the bearings or something.

Do you regularly clean your fans/vents? [shopvac or compressed air method ?] If not, then could be an indicator of a dirty fan. Clean and then see if it will go away with use.

    Keep us posted

My X505-Q892 had the same problem, however it was fixed after I opened it up and replaced the fan. Turns out it's pretty common with this line.

But yeah, the noise is at it's worst just before it spins up, like it was loose or something.

It's definitely dust. It's happened twice with me. both times I shut down and use compressed air and it went away. Now I use compressed air once a week, just to be safe.

while powered down, stick a toothpick into the fan blades, then use compressed air both into and out of the fan - several times to loosen up any dust balls.

You can also extend the life of fans by relubricating them. In spite of sealed bearings, the lube does evaporate. Use something like a small drop of sewing machine oil, not WD-40. I understand that the toughest part is often getting at the fan to relube it.

This is one of my biggest grievances about current laptops, the X505 included. On my 8 (!) year old Satelite, I just unscrew 2 screws to remove a panel and get at the fan. On the Qosmio, or any other modern laptop...well, this video describes it pretty well:

My laptop fans made a tick tick sound, like it was hitting against something, very slight, but was in warranty so i got it replaced for free with the heatsinks and sold my laptop and got an awesome rig. but x505's were awesome! :)

Just want to chime in and say thanks for all good advice. I would try to use compressed air, and hope the problem would go away, if not, send it in on the warranty.

How is the 6970m compared to the gtx460m?

    Thanks in advance

I've seen that laptop too..Samsung gets alot of things right with the design of that laptop:
*excellent screen (better than ASUS G74, apparently)
    *understated looks
    *metal (?) construction
    *4 RAM slots
    *lots of connectivity
    *awesome HD6970M GPU, and
    * JOY OF JOYS, A CONCAVE BACKLIT KEYBOARD. DEATH TO CHICLETS!!!

However, I wouldn't get one, and here's why:
*It's $2600 apparently. That's nearly enough for TWO high-end desktops with 570/6970s. It just doesn't make sense at this price.
*The speaker performance with those holes will be a joke.
*THE HEAT. Stuffing an i7 & 6970M in that thin a laptop is asking for trouble. It's going to be a portable barbeque.

In my country the Samsung is cheaper than the Asus G74 with only GTX560.

And regarding heat, it depends on the cooling.

I have i7 in my X500 and have absolutly no problem with heat, but ofcourse the 6970m is warmer than the gtx460m

I figured it would cost an arm, leg, pair of eyes, and a brain, to buy that laptop; come on Samsung!. You can buy an Alienware m17x [Dell] with a 69 90m and 1080p 17" screen for less than $2000.

I thought it said all that would come together for $1500? Heck even 1500 Euros wouldn't be that bad of a price for all that.

Be this as it may, Samsung has yet to have a laptop that sucks... :p They're like the IBM of the electronics world. They don't make crappy components. :p
