hi,
i just recently aquired a laptop, a toshiba satellite a105-s4001, and im trying 2 install xp pro on my hdd. of course its a sata hdd, and ive looked through some specs on various websites and they say it also has an ide interface 4 an ide hdd. that was a load of crap. ive tried installing xp home, but it said it needs some file, i386 or something like that so i canceled it after trying 2 figure out wat it needed. now im stuck with vista home premium. i dont particularly like it. so i guess wat im trying 2 say is, can anybody help me find sata drivers so i can install xp pro? any help would b appreciated. thanks guys

This should do it for the SATA:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...ome+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go!#DRV
Download the floppy utility I believe. If you don't have a floppy drive you will need to slipstream the driver into your XP disc using nLite:
http://www.nliteos.com/
BTW, the i386 folder is located on the Windows install CD. What do you mean it said it needed it? What exactly did it say?
EDIT:
-
wat i mean when i say it said it needed the file i386, it popped up a little window, like the search window in the old os's like c:\ or d:\. thats wat popped up and it had i386 in it and i clicked on search 2 search for those file but nothing happened so canceled the whole install. i was confused on that part cuz ive installed os's on many comps and that never popped up. so as 2 wat that is, i have no idea. thanks 4 the quick replies, and now im going 2 try both of ur ideas, ill let u know wat hapens

oh, and on the page 4 the driver downloads, which download should i do? the driver section, or utilities tools and examples or from the archive
-
I think it is this one right here that you will need:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...y32.zip&DwnldId=16013&ProductID=2101&lang=eng
That message that popped up was probably saying that the install was having trouble finding files that should be on the disc. If that happens again it might mean that your Windows CD is damaged.
Also, you won't be prompted in that way for the SATA drivers, so I'm not certain it is the problem in this case. If it doesn't have the SATA drivers the install will simply say that it "couldn't find any hard disks".
Either way, give it a shot. -
any idea where 2 get the latest service pack for xp pro. sorry if im asking 4 alot, its just i havent used a comp in a while and havent kept up with the latest updates and service packs.
-
No worries man. The latest service pack is SP3. You have 3 options:
Microsoft Update (post install): http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Network Install (post install or to slipstream): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&DisplayLang=en
Network Install on an ISO (post install - huge file): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ce-b5fb-4488-8c50-fe22559d164e&DisplayLang=en -

DO1,
The A105 has either a ATI motherboard or if it is dual core then probably 945GM.. Neither of which needs a driver update, and XP should work just fine... There were some A105's for the US which shipped with Vista, but most of the XP Drivers worked just fine... -

Just came across this thread on a Google search.
I have a Fujitsu T4215 laptop from work. I've been trying to reload XP Tablet Edition on it with AHCI enabled in BIOS but kept hitting a brick wall. This tablet was ordered with no drives so I had to reload via network share using NetBEUI and a USB floppy.
While the Windows DOS preload portion of it worked fine, the second step didn't. Once I would load the SATA driver and Windows setup proceeded, the floppy connection would somehow disappear and the driver wouldn't copy.
The lovely and extremely useful nLite utility took care of this for me. I slipstreamed SP2 and the SATA driver and all is dandy now.
Just wanted to register and say many thousand thanks for the useful help. -
It's always nice hearing that someone solved their problem and just wanted to drop in to say thanks
. I thank the creators of nLite everyday for their great program
.
Good luck in the future with your tablet. -
sorry i never got back 2 u, i was way way way busy, and it worked, thanks 4 the help. i apprieciate very much
