I've been both congratulated and flamed for converting my Sli3 to XP, but for whatever reason (blame Microsoft OR Toshiba) my system just ran very slowly on Vista. I converted back to XP. I also installed the SP3 Beta, and the system has worked well for me.

anyway, stumbled across this article. Says XP is 50%-100% faster than Vista in testing, and SP3 makes XP even faster (while Vista SP1 doesn't)

i for one love vista. on xp bioshock on dx9 runs maxed out at about 20fps. and now that i uped my memory from 1gb to 4gb and also upgraded to vista x64 bioshock runes maxed out on dx10 and runs SMOOTH don't know exact fps as fraps brings the game to a screeching hult about 15fps. also crysis settings went up and run alot smoother. and as for x64 not being compatible i only had 2 programs not run. my fan control program because of unsigned drivers which i could fix if i wanted too and my external hard drive software because it does not have x64 support. one more thing i can finally overclock again without useing ancient drivers.

What i am saying is if you have the resources vista is awsome

I've had vista running on a few machines and xp on my work laptop and my parents computer now xp is slow on these machines for me but they are kinda crap machines too i've never noticed any real slow things. I had an acer laptop that ran some things better when i put vista on it. Go figure.

So guess if XP is 100% faster according to Yahoo, you're getting like 70+ frames per second in Crysis at 1440x900 then compared to my 30ish eh? That's awesome! ;)

XP may in fact be faster at certain tasks, but Vista's no where near as bad as people make it out to be.... me personally? I'm tickled pink ya got XP running and are happy, but I do like Vista, runs good with a clean install and a few tweaks... can't tell any noticable difference honestly in performance than XP.... neither faster nor slower, just prettier

Enjoy! And as for SP1 for Vista, hard to review something that's only still in alpha or beta testing that Mr. Microsoft hasn't even released to the normal public yet.... but, to each his own

Resistance is Futile lol comes to mind.... you'll run it soon enough ;)

be77solo - I wonder if anyone has tried Vista Ultimate 64Bit on a sli1 or sli3, I have the license to use it and the dvd to install it and bought 4Gigs of memory when I told you a week ago I was buying 2Gigs just in case I installed 64bit Vista but I don't know if I should try it since I am not certain the drivers for the laptop's components will work with it, but the only real way to find out is to try but I don't know?? should I or should I not try it hhhhhmmmmmmmmm????

Well, I am so crazy that I installed Vista ultimate 64Bit on my SLi1 and everything works except I cannot find a version of the upek software for the finger print reader and also cannot find drivers for the blutooth module for vista 64bit which is not a big deal, but other than that all is working very smoothly and I acn now use the 4Gigs of memory that I had just purchased for the laptop, now time to reinstall my games later this morning (it's 3:35Am right now) and start testing this puppy.

Update: I found the bluetooth vista 64 drivers so all I need to find is the upek software so I can use the fingerprint reader. :D :D

Ha, I hear ya man! Before I could even make it back to the boards ya already made the jump! I was actually pondering doing the same, but my IT buddy that runs it on one of his HP's seems to have a fair amount of capatibility issues with some of his software, so have been hesitant to try it out. Definately keep me updated, as I'd like to try it and get full use of my ram as well. Good to hear you got the drivers working, I actually haven't even installed a driver for my fingerprint reader since my vista 32 install about a month ago ha, so that's definately not a problem not having it for me! Any software issues yet?

I am not sure if I am going to install the fingerprint reader software anyway even if I find it since it does use quite a bit of memory to run, I read that there is a 64bit version out there but I will just type in my password to log in, I will let you know how the games work when I get them reinstalled I have been busy with my 4 kids most of today already so don't have much time to play with the laptop today anymore.
