What's your experience concerning this laptop?
Overall quality of materials,drivers,support etc.
I presume GPU is ok?![]()
Display is ok too?
Is it possible to put in T9800 processor?
And if possible what's the chance of Toshiba putting it in for some extra money?
-
Drivers are pathetic, support is not that great. With dual 9800M GTS GPU's and a 9400M G, there are a lot of problems. Max 3dmark 06 score I've seen is around 11,500 when this thing should be getting around 13,000-14,000.
The display is ok, but not high enough resolution for the GPU's.
A T9800 processor can be put it, but it is extremely difficult and time consuming. Toshiba may be able to do that, but it will cost money and take time. Overall I would stay away from the Toshiba x305-q706. -
It's a good notebook. I've the european version X300-14X. With the latest hybrid sli drivers from laptopvideo2go.com it reached 15.114 points in 3dmark 06. Spec: 2x 9800M GTS SLi; Core 2 Extreme 3.06GHz - everything without o/c; os - Vista x64. The worst thing in X300 is the display - too low resolution for me (1680x1050) and the glossy chassis.
Standard driver for gpus from Toshiba is a biggest mistake i've ever seen (ie 5200 points in 3dmark06...) -
Thanks a lot for quick and very detail replies, you're great.
I would like if there are other people that have this or similar laptop, just to type a few words about things that they like or dislike.
What laptop would you recommend? -
u should get a sager ... they are pretty amazing
-
check out my x305 thread. there are about 3 people that own q706's and dont get any higher than 12k. Plus, I own a q701. I can speak for build quality, etc firsthand. But performance, I speak from other users experiences.
-
I have the x305-q706, and i love it... but, the cpu is a bottleneck for the graphics cards. I have the default p8400 2.26ghz cpu. 10063 is the highest 3dmark06 score i have seen at stock clocks. with overclocking the cpu to 2.55ghz, and the cards to 720/950/1750 i can get 11199 in 3dmark06.
also for more info on these laptops read the last 20 or so pages of the thread linked in dude55's signature, lots of info there...
arcean: what cpu is that with?, that is amazing, and gives me hope. -
by the way, a toshiba with a 2.8ghz CPU and a 9800M GTX scored 11,800 on 3dmark 06, compared to 11,199 with an overclocked gpu and 250 mhz slower CPU

lol
No, don't buy Toshiba, STAY AWAY ! -
do you have this laptop?
no? ok then now next question.
just because i dont know how to update drivers? i could make a driver if i wanted to. why dont i? i dont have the time.
and i got 7300 out of the box, im at 8825 now. so ready out of the box? no.
i get a kick out of people who think they know everything about a laptop they dont have.
check out the 3dmark 06 scores for m1730's with 9800m gt's in sli. they get around 13-14k if tweaked right. shows its the drivers for hybrid SLI.
why dont u do us a favor and stay in the msi forum. -
9800m gt's also have 98 stream processors 9800m gts has only 64. 9800m gts is comparable to a under clocked 9600 gt desktop card which in single card benchmarking doesn't even score over 8.5k in 3dmark 06.
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=590&card2=557
3dmark 06 uses a combined score of cpu and gpu so just think about that. Half for your gpu half for you cpu. thats 4kish for each totaling around 8k adding another gpu does not double your score....you get a 50% increase at best. So even for a desktop 9600 gt in sli you shouldn't expect more than 12k unless you use a quadcore. A 9800m gts is even slower than a 9600 gt desktop card so why in the world would it score higher?
Besides all of that anyone with any experience comparing graphics cards knows 3dmark 06 is not a accurate way to compare graphics cards. Seeing as how this is all you care about you clearly don't understand how to compare anything at all and its not much of a surprise you don't know how to work your drivers.
No where did I say I own this laptop so I can't say anything about the the quality, but the Op deserves accurate information about the gpu and I would also say that if you can't update your drivers without someone to say download this and install that, then learn how to do it otherwise don't buy a gaming laptop. Because any serious gamer will tell you that you need to know how to do that, nvidia is constantly updating their drivers for new games and they come out weekly even daily sometimes. -
no backlit keyboard, bios overclocking or RAID support. the x305-q706 needs a quadcore processor and it isn't that difficult to disassemble since there are step by step photos and instructions right here at notebook forums. took mine apart using the guide posted here. don't have a problem with 1680x1050 on a 17" display-the display is very good on mine anyway. Overall, I'm happy with the X305-Q706, but would like to see BIOS overclockability, RAID support and a backlit keyboard(non glossy) available. I would buy and install a backlit keyboard if one were available for this model.

and its funny, really funny that you think you are correct, the confidence displayed in your post is ridiculous.
3dMark score Calculations:
SM2.0 Score = 120 x 0.5 x (SM2 GT1 fps + SM2 GT2 fps)
HDR/SM3.0 Score = 100 x 0.5 x (SM3 GT1 fps + SM3 GT2 fps)
CPU Score = 2500 x sqrt (CPU1 fps x CPU2 fps)
GS for hardware capable of running all tests = 0.5 x (SM2S + HDRSM3S)
GS for hardware capable of running only SM2.0 graphic tests = 0.75 x SM2S
3dMark Score = 2.5 x 1.0/((1.7/GS + 0.3/CPU Score)/2)
i.e 2.5 weighted harmonic mean of GS and CPU Score
GT1 fps means the average frame rate measured in SM2.0 graphics test1.
CPU fps means the frame rate measured in the cpu tests.
and you lack the rudimentary concept here. i know a crapload about drivers. drivers come out every week, sure but are they always better? no.
And a 9800m gts is similar to an 8800 GS GPU, which is better than a 9600 as the desktop variant. with a 2.26ghz CPU and an overclocked 9800M GTS, ive seen scores almost at 10k. why? people KNOW what they are doing unlike you. giving out false information is one thing, but giving out false information where think you are correct and you argue over it with someone who is obviously more knowledgeable, then you just need to shutup. -

Clevo guy your quasi imagination and reputation on these forums render your postings obsolete. I confide in my numerous sources such as notebook check and the nvidia website to be correct and take you persistent arguing distraught.
and not sure what I'm trying to prove? That is the formula, calculate it for yourself. perhaps you are lacking mathematical skills.
check the cores for the 9600 and the 9800m gts. Forget the stinkin numbers on the spec sheet, look at benchmarks, it is more suited toward an 8800gs which is a bit better than a 9600. most nvidia mobile cards are modeled after their desktop counterparts in correspondence of numbers: 9800m gt = underclocked 9800gt, etc. -
-
Perfect example of your subaverage cognitive functioning and deficit.
I was talking about clevoguy, not you. Want me to talk about you? Let me start:
1. you need to learn how to thoroughly read. an underclocked 9800gt, regardless of how many damned cores there are, performs similarly to a 9800m gt. and a 9800m gts is similar to an 8800 gs.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9800M-GTS.9918.0.html
its quite simple really, i dont really give a rats @$$ whether it has the same amount of stream processors, that is not all there is to a gpu. its like you are comparing a 3.2ghz pentium 4 to a 3.2ghz i7 965. oh but they have the same clock speed boo who.
and bragging about a 9700m gts? identify your sources which show that.
thinking whatever gpu i have is better than it is? thats what YOU THINK.
now you are just trying to find any bit of dirt and ostracize me. pathetic.
you also dont seem to get it. the drivers for hybrid sli are garbage!!! no matter what driver there is! 11,000 3dmark 06 for dual 9800m gts's? a 9800m gtx scores higher than that.
and to correct you again, nvidia does support directx 10.1 on some of their gpu's.
this thread is getting completely off topic. i will no longer advocate that. do not reply to my post on here. -
my god he was right all you do know is how to run 3dmark 06...your so cool you click a button and the program runs and you think thats the only way to compare graphics cards. What was the point of posting a quote about a 4850 thats true...1 4850 is not better than sli 9800m gts. A 9800m gtx does not score higher than 11k without a quadcore cpu....my god your ignorance is quite impressive. Everything you post is 3d mark 06 if by your logic the real world benchmarks would reflect that and you will never show real world performance because you know I'm right.

Check tunay you fool in the x305 thread. 11,800 with 2.8ghz CPU. just shut up. you constantly are spamming this thread.
I talk about 3dmark 06 you talk about something else. This thread is about an x305-q706 and none of you fools have it, not even an x305. and although a 4850 obviously is not better, the hybrid sli drivets are crap. The mods should suspend your account. let someone else come in here, they will support me. -

someone at laptopvideo2go.com posted a pic of the 706 with a x9100 proc and 185.85 drivers, check out thanatospy:

Here is correct http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=24003&view=findpost&p=115158 -
Hi guys, i wanna know 1 thing... I'm interested in buying a x305-q706 to replace my x205-Sli1... Now, i have read here that it won't be a good idea because of the drivers (which is NVIDIA fault, not Toshiba -me thinks-!)... Now, if the drivers are so bad, how is arcean getting 15+k in 3dmarks? while Exile is getting 10+k??? 5K difference just for the processor? I don't think so (found this page with a 3DMark06 CPU scores chart )...
So Arcean what drivers are you using? how is your NVCP configuration? How are you getting that much of a difference? -
In my view is not only the drivers. It is a nightmare to change any part of this laptop (Example: CPU). Toshiba have no support at all. Not seen any driver updates from Toshiba. No RAID support ect, ect!
-
Well ok, i'm up with you about the non upgrade options (about GPU, because upgrading CPU is a nightmare in almost all laptops, not only this one) and RAID, a really valid point... Now like i always said abt the drivers... Almost none of the OEM release good updated drivers... Except for a few (ASUS, SAGER?, ALIENWARE?) the rest release drivers very outdated, so is not only Toshiba... If the Hybrid SLI is not working good with drivers, that's a Nvidia fault, not Toshiba... I still wanna know how Arcean got 15k while the others cannot pass 11k... what is he doing different?
I need to know the real gaming performance of the q706, not 3dmarks06 only, how this thing run Crysis, Bioshock, Grid, etc etc etc... -
I have a diffrent model. BTW, I have used Toshiba, HP And Asus. I must say that ASUS is the best one so far. I have not tried any Sager based model but there is many positive comments about Sager. If I should buy a new laptop now, I wold search for Asus And Sager... -
First of all I was trying to buy this laptop from Toshiba direct and they just did not have them in stock, but it was secret information
… for 1 month they were talking me different bull on the phone. After 1 month I returned money and placed order on newegg. I received my laptop in one day and… one video card burned out on first start! I moved to closest Toshiba service, and here second card burned out, nice
… Okay 82 days of waiting… and after this and 800$ (for parts) and I got working laptop with 2 different cards working in SLI (different BIOS and different core stepping, so from time to time I’m getting blue screen and reloading).
So with BIOS – no RAID support, no over clocking even if you will get Extreme CPU.
Drivers: no official driver updates, no CUDA support in stock drivers so in result no PhysX support. Btw about sound card – it is awful… I bought X-fi Surround 5.1 because I tired from static noise all over time (I used different drivers and everything I could find on internet).
Laptopvideo2go drivers much better than stock drivers (current release 185.85), but they still have many troubles in games. And you still cannot run CUDA based applications – because you cannot deactivate SLI mod. I was talking with nVidia about this – they told that support of x305-706 and x305-708 depends only on Toshiba’s decision (probably they should organize a testing or provide a laptop or pay something – no idea). Overall gaming performance became okay after I switched to Nautius’s Hybrid drivers from laptopvideo2go but there are unpleasant bugs with textures in gamesand different artifactsappears from time to time. Btw if you are playing games like Far Cry 2 you should use powerful cooling pad 100% of the time.
My suggestion about this:
As ASUS owner I would suggest something like W90Vp-X2 (somewhere were model with better CPU): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220527
As an enthusiast of insane laptops I would suggest: http://www.smoothcreations.com/builder.asp?specific=130
Or this: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9280-built-clevo-d900f-late-p-2577.html
P.S. If you interested in any details - you are welcome. -
Thats good I'm not Toshiba owner and hater alone here! I saved money for this laptop for long time, but I see that now I have competly waste it!!!
I have said this before, I'm never going to buy a Toshiba product again!
BTW: I love your sig
