    Hi all,

I just got an a135-s4527 with Windows Vista and most of the applications I need to use don't work....

I've formatted, installed a XP SP2 but I cannot find drivers for this!

I've read in this forum that many of you have done the downgrade to XP, could you please post where to download the drivers for each thing? Graphics, wireless, modem, etc.

I've done some googling, but unable to find !

    Thank you!

I bought a Toshiba A135-S4527 with Windows Vista Premium installed on it. I quickly decided to downgrade to XP Pro. It took me days of searching to locate all the drivers since Toshiba does not provide XP drivers for this laptop. Installing all the updates from the Windows Update site did a lot of the drivers for me. HOWEVER, Windows Update will misdiagnose the display adapter. It will try to install a driver for the Intel 945GM but it must be some generic 945GM driver, because it will not give you full functionality (e.g., multiple display outputs, etc). Use the method I describe below to get the correct 945GM driver for this display adapter.

    =====================================================
Hardware and drivers needed to run Win XP Pro on Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527
    ==============================================================
Run "infinst_autol.exe". This is an Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (now called Intel Chipset Device Software I think). It will identify and load the proper driver files (.inf) for various things. I did this at the end last time, but if done near the beginning, it might take care of things like display adapter, etc. Check Intel's site for the most updated one. Go to http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/

Display adapter is Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family
Driver was named win2k_xp14182.exe. I downloaded it initially from
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?strstate=live&productid=2301&dwnldid=9683
    &agr=n&lang=eng&prdmap=2301

Mouse is Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad
Driver file was called XP_2K.8.3.4.zip. Can be downloaded from the Synaptics website.

    Wireless adapter is Atheros AR5006EG
Driver can be gotten from Windows Update (or maybe the Win Vista CD too)

Ethernet adapter is Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
Driver can be gotten from Windows Update (or maybe the Win Vista CD too)

    Modem is Toshiba Software modem
Driver can be gotten from Win Vista CD.

During XP installation, drivers were automatically loaded for:
    - multimedia card reader
    - firewire port (IEEE 1394)
    - DVD/CD drive

Thanks for the info!! Im about to do the downgrade, but I have some questions first....

Do I have to disable the SATA interface from the BIOS when Im about to start the xp installation? Im saying this because when I downgraded a pavilion laptop, I had to do this... After I finished I installed the SATA drivers and then I enabled SATA from the BIOS again.. I imagine that I need to do this since xp doesnt have sata compatibility (at the moment of installation), but Im asking anyways...

Second question, I presume that infinst_autol.exe contains among other thingies, the sata and audio drivers needed..... Is this correct?

Thanks a lot and I hope I get an answer soon!!!

I don't mean to butt in on your thread, but I have an A135-S4666 on the way (my first laptop). I also want to use XP. I see Intel drivers for the 943GML chipset on the Intel site for XP. Are these all the drivers I will need outside of modem, etc?

    Thanks in advance.

I got this laptop a few days ago and after one session with vista and seeing how slow it was and how much of the mem it ate while just at rest ( had only 50% ram avail) and how much hd space it took ( had 50 gig out of 80 avail with just crap toshiba had on it), I decided to put windows xp on it. I formated the hd from the xp install disk, and almost half the drivers were already on just from xp. I dug around in a few places like this forum and another and found all the rest in one sitting! No worries it can be done with any pc - do not let idiot sales and service folks try to tell you the hardware was built only to function on vista! They tried that crap on me lol. This machine screams now. Boot times are about 1/10 as long and everything run a ton faster - i click on my internet connect button on left of laptop and i am on in 1 second flat and that is no exageration and that is on wireless! Browsing is faster and installations are faster. YOu have to do this if you dislike vista it is easy if you are used to installing operating systems. Good luck and do it - you will thanks us for telling you to.

I have an A135-S4527, and installed XP pro on it

I found all the drivers already according to your list

Everything works fine except for an annoying mouse freezing, which makes the computer in essence useless,
freezing every minute or so for about 4-5 seconds.
I wonder if other people have similar problem with their touchpad
I have not been able to solve this issue. I'd really appretiate any hint.

I am as well going to be down UP-grading my 4527 laptop to XP as well. I talked to the Toshiba rep on the phone yesterday and made sure it would not mess up my warranty no problem they said but like everybody else no support for the drivers. I owe my gratitude to you who have found the drivers and methods to get the machine to work. I just bought the machine about a month ago so behind the curve on UP grading as I would like to call it. Guys we are not down grading we are up-grading. So hopefully in a week or two this machine will be smokin! fast and running like it should be.

    Thanks for all the posts.

I have my A135-S4527 on a dual boot with Vista/XP and everything seems to be working fine, except for the mouse which lags and freezes up for about couple of seconds while apps are loading.

    Anyone know of a fix?

Hey did you ever resolve this ? It appears from posts in other forums that Vista toshibas have a SATA drive with which XP cannot initially cope, requiring construction of a custom XP disk having the driver for the controller at the right stage....I'm still "collating", as the robot Ash said in Alien...

    Hello, i just joined today
i've also been trying to see how to use this machine with XP
so far this is what i've found...

    the OMEGA drivers are ****....
the 10-15 secdond delay weirdly enough happens when there is a sound...
i had to RESTORE from a restor epoint to remove the audioo drivers and i have yet to see it lock up.
it is the drivers for the AUDIO, either the high definition XP drivers or the sound card's drivers..

as for the MASS STORAGE DEVICE drivers, that's the multi-card reader and those drivers can e found on the CD that came with the computer.

i haveb;t been able to find the SM BUS Controller drivers...

so far i ahven't had trouble not aving this installed..but it annoys me

the ATI set up failes...the INTEL setup goes thru but neve rinstalles the SM BUS drivers..

    tha's all folks..

Just go to CONTROL PANEL --> SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES --> SOUNDS tab --> select NO SOUNDS...

i guess the problem is with the sound driver... wheneven a system sound plays, my lappy gets struck... so i tried this.. and it works... its not getting struck now...

I believe the freezing mouse problem is related to the order in which drivers are installed. I had that problem the first time I installed XP, but when I later reinstalled XP using instructions from another thread in this forum I didn't have the freezing problem. Search this forum and you should find the answer. It will probably require re-installing XP.

I just UPgraded mine with XP also and actually found all the drivers on the Toshiba recovery and applications/drivers media instructions disk(s) that came with the machine. Everything is running except being able to crank up the screen brightness. The drivers are found in the directory (folder) called COMPS1. You can either let the disk startup or go to the folders and the individual directories and double clicking on the file you want to run. If you let the disk run there is a menu system that will install the drivers also. It actually works. The disk is meant for Vista but works just fine on XP.

    Hi,
I have a A135 S4677 Satellie that came with Vista, I need to go to XP for work apps. anyones thoughts on putting in a new hard drive and putting XP on that?
Then I would have the original setup and could swap back for warranty purposes. There are several drive-finder programs out there but if anyone has done this model can you help with how it went??? Where did you get most of the drivers?
THere are some device/driver finders out there that say they can find the right drives....
Also my research has shown that this model was made under a different designation for europe and canada with XP. Anyone know where I can see a table that shows US-VS -other countries model #'s? Maybe they have the whole driver setups already or I could buy a restore disk from them and that would have the drivers.
    Thanks Everyone!

That link above is broken, actually the whole site seems to be borked..LOL

I've taken most of the drivers from the "Whatever Sales" posted on the site, very helpfull, thank you, but I was unable to get the sound to install, I was however able to use the driver off the CD, however I still have the mouse freezing problem. Hopefully someone will see this and post up a link or private message me with how to obtain it. could even mail-e me at gfilitti at yahoo dot com I'd really appreciate it.
Otherwise I've disabled everything in msconfig, and no help there.

Hi is it possible for you to zip all the drivers and keep them at same location? It will be easy for us to download one single file instead of downloading every individual file.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi all,

I just got an a135-s4527 with Windows Vista and most of the applications I need to use don't work....

I've formatted, installed a win XP but I cannot find drivers for this!

I've read in this forum that many of you have done the downgrade to XP, could you please post where to download the drivers for each thing? Graphics, wireless, modem, etc.

I've done some googling, but unable to find !

    Thank you,

I know this is an old thread, but I am building a new pc, and giving my old Satellite A135-4427 to my girlfriend. Does anyone know if there are any driver differences with the 4527 and the 4427? She would much prefer XP to Vista. And I don't blame her.

    Thanks a lot!
