I have an a205-s5804 1.6ghz with 2gigs of ram. I had a short video to render with sony vegas 8 (30 seconds). My cpu temp went over 200*f. It idles around 120*f (40c).

Is this not normal? Its on a flat hard surface and the fan is spinning.

200*F = 93.3*C, that is extremely hot for a CPU. Your idle temperature is nothing out of the ordinary (120*F = 49*C actually).

What program are you using to measure the temperatures? Also, how long has it been since you cleaned out the laptop's vents? See the Cooling Guide.

I am using speedfan and core temp. I blew some air into the fan slot and exhaust. Very little dust came out. I was going to put some thermal paste on it, but a screw is stripped holding my dvd rom drive in.

Wow. Laptops are way harder to work on than desktops. Anyways, I got the old thermal paste off and put a few dabs of arctic silver 3. Idle temps are down to 113*f, but its a little cooler than it was earlier. I think it has a break in time anyways. Maybe tomorrow I will try putting load on it again.
