I have a friend with toshiba a205, we installed XP on it, everything seems to run smoothly the first 2-3 weeks and after that pc starts to slow down considerably. Even the sound starts to get slowed down and sounds like a distorted robotic noise :) we reinstalled XP and the same thing happend
any suggestions would be very useful :)

Hmm, have you done the usual maintenance stuff yet? (ccleaner, regmec, defrag, spybot, virus) It all most sounds like something going on with your hardware. And make sure to check your startup, could be a app with a memory leak or something hoarding your cpu and ram.
