If the Toshiba a205 came preinstalled with Vista, it is a hard thing to find manufacturer's XP drivers. What you can do is download the drivers from the factory site for every piece of hardware...it's tedious, but you could slipstream them into an XP disc via nLite.

Look at another lapppy that is xp and is similar to yours and just download the drivers for it, or go to the manufacturers website,

It is time consumeing, but not hard to find them. They all can be found! Before you do it, go into device manager and write down all of them on paper. Then put in xp and format hard drive when it ascs you to. After instal of xp, see if you can pull drivers off the restore disk - do not do system restore but click on the tab that says manually install drivers, and look through the list for the ones xp does not auto install ( xp will prob do well over half of them). Next go to the manufacturer of the hardware for any drivers that you cannot find on restore disk( not toshiba, but man of the device in question) and look for drivers for it( often the drivers support everything from win98 up to vista). Then go to the internet and look for a program called "intel chipset device installer" and download and run that it will actually install drivers for all the stuff that is hard to find like buttons, media buttons , fast internet connect buttons and volume knobs as well as other usb related stuff. That is all there is to it. If you really want to be smart, then you install a program that looks at your pc and copies all your driver and puts them into a exe folder. This will give you all your drivers for that will run xp for that machine in one folder that you can store on an external hd or media device in case you crash or have to format for some reason in the future ( do not want to have to search all this crap down again). The beuaty of this program is that you can install them all in one fell swoop at one time! Good luck - it helps to have a second pc around as you can look stuff up on that one during process. If you are good with pc, it will take a few hours to do if not good, may take a few days but you can do it. Remember cannot hurt the pc doing it as can always run the system restore disks from toshiba and get back to where you are now with vista and all the crap toshiba put on at factory. Oh, before you do this whole process, first go into bios and set your cd rom to be the device to boot first from and remember to save bios. Hitting the f2 button during boot up on the toshiba splash screen gets you to bios, then look for boot sequence in there and follow instructions for moving cdrom drive to priority 1. I hope this helps
