    Hi folks,

I bought a Satellite A300 yesterday and I absolutely love it. But one thing has me ripping my hair out - it's making a horrible noise. It started yesterday after I put it to sleep. When I woke it up I found whenever the hard drive light goes on, the hard drive makes a strange buzzing, grinding, sort of static noise every few seconds.

I have tried disabling everything I installed yesterday to see if any of the processes might be affecting it, but so far nothing is working.

The hard drive is partitioned in half - it came like that. I'm not sure if that would be the answer, but I don't know how to unpartition it, bearing in mind no recovery disks came with the machine.

A thread was made in January with the same problem but no answer was posted, so I thought I'd see if anyone knew now. I could really do with not taking it back to where I bought it.

    Thanks a lot.

I guess I'll return it tomorrow and try to swap it for a new one. The dvd drive is incredibly noisy and selective about when it plays cds/dvds. Hope I just got an odd one!

thats normal for the dvd drive, i have an a300 as well.
It runs like a beast when playing cds, but i dont mind because i rarely use cd's.
The only time i used the cd drive was to install a game, thats all.

I dunno, that seems weird to me. Right now with a slight hum of the air conditioning in the background, my a300 is totally silent. The HDD is never loud, not even in my external that uses the exact same model HDD in it.

Hopefully nothing bad happens, that would worry me!
