Hi All Experts! I have an opportunity to purchase a Toshiba Tecra A2 notebook for $1299, free ship, 3yr warranty, 512Ram, 1.5G, DVD/cdRW, 60GB. I know absolutlely nothing about this notebook in either reliability or performance. What does everyone think of this deal? Good/Bad?
    TIA,
Marilyn in a quandry (whose other computer is 1yr old Sony Vaio)

The price is pretty good, but what will you be using the notebook for? If you're going to be doing a lot of graphics intensive apps or playing the latest games, this notebook may fall a bit short. The video card used is an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 with shared video memory. This will not provide a lot of power for heavy graphics. It will work for older games, office apps surfing and watching DVD's.

If you're going to be doing a lot of graphics or games, you may want to consider a different model/brand with a better video card with dedicated video memory.

You're welcome. If you're not going to be doing anything really graphics intensive, then it should be more than enough for you at the moment, but you may want to futureproof your notebook now. I'm going to assume you're going to have this notebook for a while, there's always the possibility you may want to do more intensive apps or play games in the future. So you may want to get a bit more than you currently need, just so you're prepared for the future. Like I've said, you can pay now, or you can "pay" later. [ :D]
