    Batteries wear out in time.
You can check the wear level with something like CPUID HwMonitor (with the battery plugged of course.)

Highly doubt you managed 5-6 hours beforehand. Laptops don't degrade THAT fast.

This is why i'm asking, maybe there was an update or something that consums much cpu or something, since it only has an i3 it isn't really that complicated to get high calculating cirlce of the cpu^^

thanks katalin, i will check that :)

How long did it last when it was brand new?

You can always do a calculation of how much the current power consumption is in eco mode graph, and then divide that from your battery's current capacity.

My new Portege R835 with i5-2435m use 7-10W on idle/initernet, and the battery capacity shows 63465mW. 63/10=6.3 hours. 63/7=9 hours. I get about 8 hours normal internet use. You can use batterybar software for more accurate estimations.

Yeah, the battery does degrade with age and use so there's nothing much we can do about it. I hope the battery doesn't degrade too much after a year.

I think a lot also depends on your laptop usage while on battery; if it's used daily on battery and for how long. If it's a daily workhorse, then it's quite believable the battery life would suffer from it.

Another thing to help with your battery life is to keep it plugged in when possible, and only use the battery when absolutely necessary.

Something my sister learned after her first year of owning a HP-dv4 was to keep her laptop plugged in when ever possible; her battery only lasted about 14 months.

In my opinion, I would continue to use the same battery until it is completely dead. However, when the times comes for a new battery, there are two options available: the 6-cell and 9-cell batteries.
Toshiba Primary 6-Cell Li-Ion Laptop Battery
Toshiba Primary Extended Capacity 9-Cell Li-Ion Laptop Battery

Good luck and keep us informed of any updates :)

    Thank you very much :)

A few years ago somebody told me I should empty the battery as often as possible an unplug it as often as I could :S so i really should plug it in as often as possible?
