    Hi,
    i have a toshiba satellite A105-S2031 laptop,
which has a Fujitsu 60GB 5400RPM HD that came with it.

iam trying to upgrade the HD so wanted to know the following :

    1) Which is the best laptop 2.5" HD out there?
    WD
    toshiba
    fujitsu
    hitachi etc....

    2) should i stick with 5400 or go for 7200,
    are there any heating issues???
what will be the diff. in performance btw 5400 and 7200.

i use my laptop for multitasking including browsing, watching movies, chatting and playing Pro Evolution Soccer 06.

    pls. help me decide.

    Thanking u in advance. :)

if you're looking for performance get a hitachi. if you want one that runs cool and quieter than the others get a western digital. as for rpm speeds, 7200 will obviously offer faster performance than a similar data 5400 rpm. but a more dense 5400 will perform similar to a 7200 rpm. i.e. a 200gig 5400 will be about the same as a 100 gig 7200. or a 320 gig 5400 will be about the same as 200 gig 7200 rpm. that's important to know if you want a cooler hdd that runs @ 5400 but will give you similar performance to a 7200rpm in some instances.

I also wouldn't write off getting another Fujitsu HDD. They run cooler than most.

320GB 5400rpm has good pricing because all the manufacturers have models. 320GB 7200rpm HDDs have just arrived but have a significant price premium.

Western Digital is a reliable company. I've ordered hard drives from them in the past and they are both quiet and cool.

Depending on how your experience was with your Fujitsu hard drive, you should probably stick to them.

I don't have much experience with laptop different laptop drives, but personally I don't think it is worth the extra cost for a 7200rpm drive in a laptop. I would save the money for a bigger capacity 5400rpm drive that will be plenty fast and have more capacity for the money (higher capacity will help with speed as mentioned).

I don't know how much of a difference it will make, but I think a 5400rpm drive generally will run cooler than a 7200rpm drive and consume less power as well.
