I'm in the hunting-for-a-new-notebook stage. Am very interested in the Toshiba A75-S206 model, but have heard that the battery life is a couple notches over zilch. Could I possibly purchase a higher powered (or longer-lived) battery for this particular notebook? Thanks for your help!

    Hi Mary,
    Probably not,
If you need more battery life then look at notebooks with the Pentium M (not Pentium 4-m) processor. These CPUs use only a fraction of the power that most other CPUs use. I'm guessing that the Toshiba A75-S206 is using a Pentium 4 CPU and those will even drain a large battery pretty fast. One way to spot the Pentium M is to look for the "centrino" label, it means it has a Pentium M for power saving as well as wireless (802.11) built in and the Intel chipset that supports power savings features.

    good luck
    Jack

Thanks, Jack. That's exactly the info I need re that A75-S206.

Can you by any chance recommend a particular Toshiba notebook that would have a longer battery life? Or another make, for that matter (not a Compaq)?

    Thanks.

Mary (whose only Toshiba at this point is a T-1000, which died years ago)

I'm not familiar with the Toshiba models, but they make a great notebook. Just look at models with the centrino label or Pentium M ( not Pentium 4-M ) IBM also make alot of Pentium M notebooks as well.

    good luck
