Hello, perhaps one of you can help me please?
I bought an M30 Special Edition notebook in Korea. Now I am in Canada and having a little difficulty. I am getting the "infinite loop" caused on startup by "nv4_disp.dll" (part of the nVidia GeForce go5200 software) all of a sudden, and this still occurs even if I do a clean reinstall and use only the old drivers that my computer came with (note: the original nVidia drivers, supplied by Toshiba, now do not work: I just get a dos window pop up and it does nothing, and requires an "end program" when I try to close it after a while...so I am using the display drivers currently available for my model from Toshiba Korea. I have found a lot of info on this problem (others have had it randomly start too) on the net, but none of the 'fixes' have worked, even though I have gone through them meticulously.
So, I want to try updating my BIOS (probably the only 'fix' that I have not tried)...but... according to the Korean site, I have the latest BIOS (v1.40)... However, on English-language sites, my computer does not exist, and instead they have a BIOS update for the various M30 models (not SpecialEd). For example:
ACPI Flash BIOS version 1.50 for Satellite M30-S309 (v1.50; 06-30-2004; 3.4M)
I called Toshiba Canada, and they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg to talk as my compupter is post-warrantee... eventually they talked for free, but seemed pretty clueless about the M30SE.
Diagnostic programs such as SiSoftware Sandra list my computer simply as an M30, no mention of SE...
So: do you think there would be a problem if I flashed my BIOS with that of another M30 model?
I'm using XP Pro sp2. If there is any other info about my system that might be of use, please let me know!
Cheers!
...UPDATE: I just found BIOS 1.50 for the M30SE PSM33L (mine is a PSM33K...is that close enough???)
bios update for m30 special ed= m30?
