so i culdnt get bioshock to work at first, i installed the 163.44 video card driver, and success! i maxed everything out! and it runs so so smooth! hardly any lag at all, and the lighting, graphics, sound, is the best iver ever seen, ive been a console gamer for years. ive never had or cared to have a computer capable of running high-end games. then ive heard with the right computer that the graphics would be way better than anything on xbox 360 or ps3! and with this x205-s9359 it blows it away! the water in the game at the beginning looks cg! its drop dead gorgeous! this is a gaming beast! and will easily handle games of the future! crysis here i come!

Hi Maddux, and welcome to PC FPS.
Since gaming performance is such a subjective thing, could i ask you to post a 3Dmark06 score?
I'm with steveoh... my Bioshock / X205 experience has not been the earth-shattering one i thought it would be...
With 163.44 (no o'clock of course) i get 4200 with 1440x900 res and no AA or AF.
To run Bio with a playable 30FPS, i need to turn ingame detail down to medium.
Interestingly, as planet has posted on numerous occasions, i am experiencing a weird phenomenom where lower res selections do not improve FPS. the only way for me to up the FPS is to turn detail down.
AA and AF do not seem to affect FPS that much either. For example i can turn them off or have them maxed in Flight Sim X, and it only makes a 4-5FPS difference (basically its lousy whenever i'm flying in an urban area where there is obviously a lot of 'detail' showing).
Something does not compute here... i think planet is on to something...
Maybe shaders are not working properly on this card. -
I'd really like to know your laptop specs Maddux. I'm shopping for a laptop and using BioShock compatibility as the defining feature. I wanna play dx10 with respectable graphics. Right now I'm looking at the Asus PowerPro A 9:6 from powernotebooks.com but it's only got 256 VRAM and I don't think that's enough for a game of this magnitude. I'm also considering the Xplorer X5-7900 from cyberpower.com which has the 512 VRAM. They're both about $1300 configured the way I want. What do you suggest on the VRAM issue? One other thing is that it seems only DDR2 is available for the laptop version of this card...
Is that going to hurt my performance? I'm mainly wondering what your laptop specs are though. Thanks.
bioshock amazing on x205
