I know this is a common problem, and I have read solutions and watched many youtube clips on how to fix it. But nothing have worked for me.

When pressing the power button, everything seems to start up. The screen flickers and even works for about half a second, then, blackness. Its not completely dead, I can see very fainted when holding the screen close to a lamp. When plugging in an external monitor, it works.

    I have tried:

Removing battery and start up with just the AC
Removing both battery and AC-power and waiting many hours
Switching slots for my two memory sticks
    another wall-socket
Checking the lid close-switch if its dirty etc (this could prevent the computer from waking up from sleep-mode)

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
    /John

Sounds like the backlighting is shot [inverter]. Try hooking your laptop to an external monitor to verify the screen/inverter is bad; if external monitor also has display problems then could be GPU.
Is it similar to this video ?: IBM ThinkPad T43 - Backlight problem - YouTube

You may find the replacement part here from NationalParts, an authorized Toshiba distributor. If it is just the inverter, then only the inverter should need to be replaced, the LCD screen should be ok.

Good luck and keep us posted with any results.

Tried an external monitor again and it worked! (Wierd)
    Sorry about that.

Alex, yes its very similar to that video. So what I need to do now is to replace the inverter?

    Thank you all for answering

Opps, I missed that you tried the external monitor, but it looks like it worked the second time? [try again to verify].
If an external does work, then it's most likely the inverter. If external does not work, then it's the GPU like 1994F7PT mentioned.
