hi. i just bought the toshiba satelite a305 with vista 64-bit.
i am wondering why my bluetooth wont recognize. do i need an adapter or something externally inserted thru usb, etc?
also...does anyone know of a password keeper software that would work on a 64-bit? ive used and liked norton password manager on previous computers, but it is not compatible on a 64 bit.
thanks for any help!

I just quickly glanced over a few a305 models and none appear to have built in bluetooth, so yes you will more than likely need a usb bluetooth adapter.
As far as a password keeper, I use and highly recommend RoboForm. -
thanks for the quick reply! when i bought this thing i asked the guy if it had BT, he said (and showed me) that it does.
i do have software in it that is Bluetooth Manager, and Bluetooth Information Exchange, but when i try to set up a user it tells me Bluetooth Has not Started or Bluetooth is Not Ready.
any idea what i should do? does this mean i need a BT usb. i thought that it came with BT?
thanks!! -
OK. Like I said, I just quickly glanced over a couple of a305s. As there are so many different builds, its hard to be certain. You may very well have Bluetooth. Ill try to help you. What is the whole part number? It will look something like this: A305-xxxx

youre awesome! thanks for helping.
its satelite a305-s6858
here is a link to it:

ps...im already using roboform! thanks! -
Ok. After looking over that unit, which is a nice looking laptop btw, I see nothing mentioned about it having Bluetooth. It appears the sales person was mistaken. Do you have a bluetooth icon in the system tray by your clock? The good news is, you can get a USB micro adapter that you can hardly even tell its plugged in for like $30 from Best Buy.
-
yes there is a BT icon in the tray. the #$&*A& salesman promised me it had BT, and "proved " it by typing "bluetooth" into the start menu search box where bt items appeared.
??? i wish i understood this stuff just a little more! -
Well if you have a bluetooth icon in the tray it *should* have bluetooth. This is very weird. In the center if the bluetooth icon, is it white or red?
-
Ok. According to C-Net, that model includes the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack, which is the software, but there is no bluetooth hardware present. Which, to say the least, is ridiculous. That being said, I can *almost* understand the sales rep being confused and thinking it has bluetooth when it doesnt.
EDIT: The Toshiba website confirms that it has NO bluetooth. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but its an easy fix with a USB bluetooth adapter. -
hey i reeeelly appreciate you helping me with this so thoroughly! i will let the sales-guy know.
though its a good computer, i almost want to exchange it for a BT ready laptop...any suggestions? BT had been on my short list of wants and i would have kept looking if he hadnt guaranteed it had BT! i'm kinda irked. or maybe i will just get the usb thing.
that will enable it to work with my BT cell and BT printer right?
you rock! -
That is a nice laptop and if it were me, Id save myself the hassle and just get the USB dongle. They have extremely small ones now by iogear, kensington and rocketfish at Best Buy. I have used both the iogear and kensington with great success.
And yes, you will be able to interface with your cell and printer. -
yes, youre right. i was typing out of frustration.
thank you for solving my problem, and for the roboform recommendation and specific BT recommendations. I wish i had posted here 2 weeks ago when i first started trying to get things working! haha.

No problem, more than happy to help! Enjoy your new toy!
