    I think that if you buy a Sony, you pay a lot of money for the brand.

    U305 will be more powerful since it has a regular C2D CPU instead of the low power consumption.
    It would be probably a lot cheaper but less build quality than the Portege, but it will still be good.

    I work on U305's on a regular basis. Other than dumb people cracking the LCD's its a great little laptop. Its fully featured and quite powerful. From what I could gather from the internals, the build quality is up there with the A205, but it will be a bit more fragile as its smaller and thinner.

    The R500 is still fully featured other than the slow CPU, but it is very fragile. The magnesium chassis helps with this, but if you do happen to break it, god help you because every component in it is crazy expensive.
