I have a toshiba M70 celeron-m 1.6ghz notebook - approx 6 months old, 1gb ram. I have a centrino 1.7ghz CPU lying around and was wondering if i would notice much of an increase performance wise if i were to upgrade, or if it would be a lot of hassle for little gain

Depends on what you're doing - if you're just word processing and surfing the net, you'll probably only notice only better battery life - no performance gains. If you're gaming, then I might say its worth it - is the P-M a Sonoma (533 FSB) or a Dothan (400 FSB)?

Add more memory or a faster hard drive which will help performance more.
