Hello all, my dad received a new toshiba satellite a135-s4527 from the company he works at as a gift, it came with vista home premium preloaded, but it has a lot of bloatware installed. I would know which programs to remove, but I am lazy, so I'm just wondering if there is a program sort of like the dell decrapifier for toshibas??? lol. Anyway thanks for the suggestions

Yes I think it is an actual software. I remember reading about it in the dell section of this forum.

Thanks for the suggestion, the problem I think is that if I format the HD and use the restore disks, it will install vista with all the bloatware again. That is the case with hp's notebooks, at least the consumer line. I'm not sure about toshiba, since we've had only hp or apple notebooks at home.

There's almost nothing on that system as far as I remember from my own experience with it. I removed all the little games on it, McAfee, and one or two other little things and the system was pretty much set.

Didn't you get a vista dvd along with the laptop? It will be named something like 'anytime upgrade' or 'upgrade disk'

ah well my dad is away on a trip and is bringing the laptop tomorrow, so i am not sure exactly what the contents are, but I will post tomorrow.

One question though, dad is very old school, he would be perfectly fine with xp. could i use that home premium key to install vista on my macbook?

That preinstalled version is linked to the Toshiba and cannot be used in the Macbook.

No i mean, if I "obtain" a copy of vista home premium from "somewhere", and just use the home premium dvd key that comes with the laptop. That can't be done?

00fez it might work, but it would still be illegal and if you were going to do this you might as well just go down to your local market and buy a pirate copy of Vista Ultimate. I'm not advocating this for one moment, just making the observation that there doesn't seem to be much difference between having a licenced copy of Vista where you have broken the licence and having a copy which isn't licenced at all.

Sorry to threadjack a little, but two related queries:

I know it isn't the case for you, but aren't you allowed to transfer an OEM licence to another machine if the computer is stolen or the motherboard dies?

Also, what is your situation if the laptop comes with a pre-installed OS, but you do not agree to the EULA on first boot? Can you legally use it on another machine then?
