Definitely Dell because their computers can be customized online before you order whereas Toshiba you have to buy it as-is. Also, I heard that Toshiba batteries don't last very long...

You can customize Toshibas. I have a 6 cell battery in mine and I still get over 3 hours after a year and a half. So I would have to say they are pretty good. ;)

I don't like Dell because you have to order it online, if you don't like it or something is wrong, you have to mail it back, but with a Toshiba when you buy it through a store, you can bring it back, like no questions asked.

My 6 cell battery lasts 4 hours in Work. Laptop is about half a year old.

Toshiba ! i dont think dell has a chance against Toshiba in terms of Quality. Cant go wrong with a famous and a quality Japanese brand.

I had a Dell on order... cancelled it because their customer support was CRAP and they pushed my order ship date to the end of August on the old ship date (which was the start of August). I used to like Dell... but my wife's Toshiba has outlived any Dell I've owned. So far, my Sat. X205 rocks, I love it. I'd go with a Toshiba and forget about Dell.

Nope, my Dell laptop easily lasts over 5 hours on a charge.

Actually the Latitude series is known for its quality. I am not sure why a Japanese brand means good quality with computers.

I work in IT and my co-workers do most of the ordering and service or service handling for laptops.

My company has a deal going with Dell.

    I bought a Toshiba x205.

This is not to say the Dell laptops we service are bad laptops, but the Toshiba was superior to anything the Dell people had for me at the price range I was looking at at the time I was looking to purchase.

That and the realistic delivery date for the laptop I configured was 2+ months out.

The Toshiba is in stock and can be next day or 2-day delivered.

FYI, battery life is a function of the components in the laptop.
If you have a lower-power using components and a better battery (9-cell) it will last longer. If you have power-consuming features like powerful GPUs, large high-resolution screens, and additional components your battery life shrinks.

The x205 series have amazing battery life (almost 3 hours of non-gaming useage) for laptops with 17" screens, powerful GPU, and two hard disks.
Such battery life would not be all that impressive for a "work" computer.

I posted "Toshiba", but the answer might have different if I had been in the market for a different type of computer.
