    What machine did you get?

I don't think you should have any problem at all.

Make sure you have a recovery disk, or make a ghost image of the current install. If you have another PC with internet access I wouldn't even worry about it. Just download the drivers you are missing. Most Toshiba's use the Intel wireless and those drivers should be built into XP.

I would also guess you could download all of the XP drivers for your Laptop from Toshiba's support site. Burn them to a disc and you are good to go.

    Hope that helps.

I've just cleaned installed my Toshiba laptop after installing a new Seagate 120GB hard drive. Here's what I've done:

    - First download all the basic drivers that is needed by your laptop. Visit the Toshiba Computing website and search the drivers by the model of your laptop (if unsure look at the bottom of the laptop and jot it down). The ones you need at least are the Graphics, Sound, Intel Wired LAN and Wireless drivers, Toshiba Modem Drivers. If you own a Tecra/Satellite Pro model you may need to download the HDD Protection driver aswell. Save them onto a separate disk, whether it's on a blank CD/DVD, USB flash drives or external hard drive.
    - Once you happy you got all the drivers, make sure you backed up all your precious files and save them elsewhere. Then go to the System32 folder in the WINDOWS folder (usually on C: ) search for the following files: OEMInfo.ini, OEMLOGO.BMP, OEMBIOS.BIN, OEMBIOS.DAT, OEMBIOS.sig. Save these files aswell as they're the manufacturer info when you open System properties in the Control Panel.
    - Get a legit Windows XP disk and place it in the DVD/CD drive. Restart the computer and enter the BIOS. Set CD-ROM as the 1st Boot Device otherwise it goes straight to the OS on the hard drive. When prompted press any key to start the set up.
    - Delete the existing partition and install your Windows XP. Once done install all your drivers first then the rest of your files, including the OEMinfo aswell.

The reason I say getting the drivers first and save them elsewhere because Windows XP won't recognise the LAN/Wireless drivers initially, so if you were thinking downloading the drivers once you installed XP you can't because the devices aren't recognised in the first place to allow you to go on the internet! So it's always best to plan out stuff first before working something like this.

Hearst555, what happens if you don't save the OEMInfo.ini, OEMLOGO.BMP, OEMBIOS.BIN, OEMBIOS.DAT, OEMBIOS.sig. files. What exactly would they be used for?
