    Hi

I bought X205 toshiba laptop from amazon. When I received the product I could find that on the box the tape had been applied on the edges on the top. The tape that was used to reseal looks like the toshiba one.

It is being sold at amazon for 1499$ as new one.

    My question is
    1. Is it factory resealed or refurbished
    2. Any chance somebody using duplicate toshiba tape at ware house?

Checked with toshiba. It is not registered before.
Presently it is with me in unopened condition. i am planning to return it back.

What is your opinion, suggestion and advice.

    Thanks

Was it from Amazon or one of Amazon's resellers?

It may have just been that the tape was cut accidentally or left the factory broken. Take a look inside, make sure everything looks new. I wouldn't worry about if it all looks fine.

The X205 is a fingerprint magnet (oh, trust me on this!). It should have come with a foam "sleeve" around the top of the LCD monitor. If you don't see any fingerprints, marks, I'd probably say the tape may have simply just gotten cut. If the original cut was a clean, razor-like cut... it's probably safe. Sometimes the companies open their own items and inspect it at random for quality insurance. If it looks like it was just torn open, yeah... that's another story.

But if you don't feel comfortable with it I'd return it.

Compare the price of your laptop to the one on ShopToshiba. Check the price difference. If its a few hundred then there is a possibility that it is an OPEN box. But the most important of all is to check the contents and test the unit itself. Contact Toshiba if you are not sure and if you have a suspicion.

agreed open it and check it. you will def know if its been opened before laptops usually dont go back together as well as when they were taken apart packing wise, also check for fingerprints as said

    amazon 1499$
    Circuit city 1499$

At toshiba direct it is 1899$. There is 300$ difference is there. Any body had similar experience.
Toshiba says that it was not registered before.

yes but at circuit city you would have to pay local sales tax adding at least 100$

It does not matter if it is registered or not. What matters is to verify if this is a return unit. Did you check if the contents are still intact? But most important is to check if the unit gives you trouble. There are instances in which laptop was returned to the reseller because Cx were not satisfied enough and asked for replacement or updated one. They will be sold out again by the Reseller slashing the price since its already an OPEN box.
