    help! harddisk driver not found

    model: toshiba satellite l40
    harddisk: toshiba MK1246GSX

    i have toshiba satellite l40 with vista basic inside. i want to change to winxp,
    when i insert the cd, after few minutes it says "harddisk driver not found", so installation cannot be continue. what can i do?

    how? i cannot find the hdd driver.

    There was a discussion regarding this in this thread.
    There is no HDD driver, but the AHCI driver for the HDD is included in the Intel Chipset Driver Package. I think your notebook has the ICH8M controller, so the link in that thread should work for you as well.

    If you have a USB Floppy Drive, you can copy the files onto a floppy and F6-install during the XP setup. Else use nLite.

    Alternatively, if you are not dual-booting, you can go into the BIOS and change the HDD Mode to "IDE/Compatibility".
