    Hi.

I just bought an SATELLITE L855-118 , with ATI graphics today, it was between this and a Sony , but i know you have problems updating graphic drivers on a Sony

    I made a restore point.

So i uninstalled the ATI catalyst and then did an driver sweeper, and re-booted and then installed catalyst 12.6 , installed fine, but my screen went to maximum brightness and i cannot adjust it, the brighness osd appears but the screen brightness does not change.

So i used my restore point.

This time i overwrote the stock catalyst 8.9 with 12.6, just the same cannot adjust the brightness.

Does anybody know how to fix this +rep if you do.

My full spec in the link below.

    Thanks

    John.

I just tried the "have disk method" with 12.6, but as soon as the driver installs , i cannot adjust the brightness , though the brightness osd indicator will go from 1-8.

    John.

I see you reverted back to a restore point, but maybe try reinstalling the Toshiba drivers to see if the brightness functionality comes back: Driver Details - Toshiba

I'm not sure how to advise you on your next move, but if no one else is able to help, I can move this thread to video/gaming subforum; just post here if you want it moved.

    Good luck

Do you mean install stock 8.9 over 12.6?

That file you linked is date 06/29/12 , but it`s still only 8.9 , toshiba really dont want to use a newer display driver do they, what are they doing keep modding the 8.9 one, or just keep changing the date?

    Thanks

    John

Yes. Toshiba drivers may contain additional tweaks, which hopefully may restore the brightness adjuster when installing the Toshiba driver.

Before attempting that, maybe I should move this thread to video/gaming subforum. The folks over there are really great about figuring this kind of stuff out. The brightness issue may be an easy issue for them.

If you want it moved, just reply and I'll do it asap.

    Hi.

I downloaded the driver you linked, it`s newer than the one on the download page for my specific model, where did you get it from?

Also i tried installing 8.9 over 12.6 , but i got an message that all the drivers were up to date so it refused to install.

You can move this thread to the graphics section if you dont mind.

    thanks

    John.

Were you able to downgrade to 8.9 successfully? Did the brightness functionality restore itself on 8.9? If so, it's strictly a driver issue then.

Does AMD have a graphics/driver control panel? [sorry, I've only used nvidia].
If you upgrade to 12.6, see if you can adjust the brightness manually through that panel [I've heard of some users on nvidia having to adjust brightness this way].

Also, I stumbled accross the AMD Mobility page. AMD states Toshiba/SONY/Panasonic laptops with switchable graphics are not officially supported [may explain why it's wonky on your Toshiba].

I really hope others can help on this issue.
Good luck and keep us informed.

I don't have switchable graphics, I am AMD only.
