Hi, I just receivied my Toshiba satellite today, and already having problems. Apparently it was loaded with Security Tool. This thing started popping up at every website I visit, even my hotmail. This thing is driving me nuts! Please tell me there's a way I can get this thing off my pc, or else I'm gonna return this thing. It is a little smaller than I thought, plus I ordered the red one, and they send me black. So far I'm not liking Toshiba very much.

Please help me. If i take it to a pc repair shop, can they get this "Security tool" off of my pc. Thanks for any advice, Greg

Toshiba forum is dead. Return it, if you ordered red and they give you black. This is a good reason for me to return it. And, no don't buy Toshiba again...

I wouldn't be happy to receive the wrong colour of laptop.

Google tells me that "Security Tool" is a virus.. But, I think that you're talking about the security programme that comes with windows. - Windows Defender

If that's the case there is a part in the programme where you select "change the way I'm alerted" and it is there where you can turn all alerts off.

It's the first thing I do when I'm given a fresh install of Windows.

Campbell, I was indeed talking about Security Tool. And you're right - it is a virus, which I found out by consulting the Geek Squad at Best Buy.

So I did return the Toshiba at Walmart - I bought it at walmart.com. And bought a Sony Vaio from Best Buy, which I'm really happy with. I'm using it now, and it seems like a really nice machine.

Can anyone tell me how to fix the settings, so the screen doesn't get shaded so fast? I'd like to keep the window open for longer periods of time. Thanks, Greg

Sounds like you mean the screen dimming after you haven't touched your keyboard in a while.

I would right click on your battery-meter down the bottom right of your screen and find some power options through there. - And set it so your screen takes a longer period of inactivity to dim.

    - I guess that you just got unlucky with your Toshiba purchase. I'm quite happy with mine, especially considering how cheap it was.
