on this model there are no instructions on how to even open the case. Toshiba advises having a technician do it. I have upgraded desktops many times, but never a laptop. Does anyone know how to access the memory and how to add additional? I need help with this one. Thanks so much for any help.

    Welcome to the forum,

Assuming its just like any other laptop then the ram lid/module should be under your laptop. turn off the laptop and upplug the ac adapter. Close the lid and and check the bottom of you laptop for a small(couple of inches) sqaure/rectagular lid be that should close to the middle of the laptop with 3/4 small screws.

You should have 2 RAM slots which are expandable to a max of 4gb (which would mean you would need (2) 2gb RAM sticks to get to 4GB). If you are looking for something smaller in size you would be looking at the 1GB PC2-4200/5300 DDR2 SDRAM SODIMMs.

thank you so much for the reply. The only thing accesable under this notebook is the harddrive and battery. The only mention of memory in the manual is that memory is under the keyboard and should be accessed only by a technician. I was always under the impression that memory could be upgraded by the user, and have always done this on my desktops.

Try this. I got it from a asus FAQ but it should work for the toshiba

    1. Turn off notebook, flip it over
    2. Unscrew the screws marked 'K', should be two
    3. Flip it over, open the lid
    4. Take a credit card(or a hard plastic card of some sort) and press down on the 4 tabs that are located at the top of the keyboard(Usually above Esc-F1-F2, F5-F6, F10-F11 and Prt-Sc-Ins)
    5. Keyboard should pop up at an angle
    6. Place KB face down on wristpad and look for the RAM(Should be right there).

To take off the RAM, unlock it by pressing the metal(aluminum?) tabs, it should pop halfway at a 45 degree angle.

To put back the RAM, place the contacts in first at a 45 degree angle, then press down and lock it back into place.

Thank you so much for the replies. I think this link for toshiba will do the trick. I know the memory for this model is under the keyboard, and this looks like my machine. I don't understand why toshiba makes it so difficult to do a simple upgrade.
