    Hello

I thought it would be simple to just run the recovery disk, but I guess not.

First, if I put it in the drive, I get Windows Explorer that opens it and I see the files but which file should I run?

Then I thought, why not reboot... this is probably a bootable DVD... it is ... but it creates a RAM disk and then reboots into Windows and then nothing happens.

So what am I doing wrong? The DVD came with the laptop so it should work right?

It shouldn't be very difficult. Make sure that you put a correct DVD into the drive. After that you reboot the laptop and press F12 on startup to get to the boot menu or press C to boot directly from the optical drive. After that you should follow the instructions on the screen.

But there are no instructions on the screen.

It creates a "RAM disk" and then reboots into the Windows I have installed on my C drive.

I never see any instructions. What am I supposed to do to see them?

    Thanks.

Just put in the recovery dvd or cd and reboot it and just hold C key until it gives you a message, something like it's going to boot from the CD or "Press a key to boot from CD" or something similar to that, sorry but it's been a year or better since I've done it.

Well, I guess I got a defective DVD Recovery Disk.

It boots once, then reboots the laptop which then boots Windows and nothing happens.

Sucks. Hopefully I will never need the disk.

That's odd - can you manually boot the CD through My Computer?

If I put the DVD in the drive while Windows is loaded, Windows Explorer opens the DVD and I can see the files that are on it. But I don't know which file I must run to start the DVD.

I wish there were instructions on this in the manual... but it just says "follow the instructions on screen"... not very helpful...

Try exiting everything, go into my computer, right click the recovery disc (CD/DVD Drive) and then click Autoplay. See if that helps any.

Thanks for trying to help. I tried what you suggest and it doesn't do anything.

I right-click on the drive, click "Autoplay" and nothing happens. It's as if I didn't press anything.

I guess they sent me a bad DVD. Don't know what to do with that.

    Hello

With my laptop, I got a Product Recovery DVD-ROM. I was under the impression that I could reinstall the original "Toshiba version" of Windows XP with it. When I put it in the DVD-ROM drive and reboot the laptop, I see that it is creating a RAM disk and then, it boots Windows. So the DVD is useless.

Now I see on my desktop an icon that says "Recovery Disc Creator". I thought that that icon would permit me to create a new Product Recovery DVD-ROM myself and maybe that new copy would work.

When I was finally able to run that icon, I was able to create a "Express Media Player (Recovery CD)". But I was not able to create a new Product Recovery DVD-ROM that contains the "Toshiba version" of Windows XP.

Is that normal? Is there a way that I can create my own copy of the Product Recovery DVD-ROM because mine is not working.

    Thanks

I don't know how to help you. But man you keep creating new threads for the same issue. I understand you are having trouble trying to restore your system from the restore DVD that you have. But why keep creating new threads? You can keep asking in the same thread and folks who know will try to help you out right?

I'm sorry. If I am not welcome here, I can leave. But I believe my threads are about different topics. They are sometimes similar, but they are different. But thanks for your help on this issue.

OK... So even though I got this weird attitude going towards me here I will still update on what's going on so maybe this will help somebody some day.

I just confirmed with Toshiba that with this model (Satellite A100), it is NOT possible to create a new product recovery DVD-ROM. It is however possible to create a Express Media Player recovery CD. This is unfortunate.

I also confirmed with Toshiba that my product DVD-ROM is defective. It does boot from the DVD but after that, it boots Windows instead of from the RAM disk. So Toshiba says they will send me a new one, free. However, this will take a few weeks.

Good thing I don't need it right now. In the mean time, I will make a back up of my system as it is now so that if it crashes, I won't need the DVD-ROM.

So until I hear anything new from Toshiba about this problem, I will not bother you guys anymore. Sorry for posting, but I do try to be helpful.. because you never know, some guy may read this post in nine months because he's having the same problem and he may find it helpful even if you guys don't.

    Good bye.

I am sorry you feel that way. The reply was not intended that way. I am sorry you felt that I was rude in some way or had an attitude towards you in some way. But all I was conveying is that per the Internet forum etiquette, sticking to one thread (for almost the same question) is a better idea. It helps folks down the road too as they don't have to muck through 5 - 10 different threads on the same question posted by the same person.

Thanks for posting your helpful status. Hope that will help someone some day.
